If you had PPD, come in please

How long did it last for you?

I know it can last for 18+ months PP, but I'm just wondering what your experiences are.
I keep thinking I should be able to go off my meds by now, but when I last tried to start weaning off of them (last week), I was quickly reminded that I need to stay at the full dose.

Also, I have been experiences some drastic highs & lows, emotionally. Usually it's a high, where I'm almost euphoric, my life is perfect, everything's great - followed the next day or so by a low, where I suck, everything sucks, my life is horrible.
Does anyone remember feeling this? I probably need to talk to my doc again, but I'm trying to figure out if it's from the PPD, or a side effect of the meds (Lexapro), or something else.

  • I have been on medication since right after DD's birth 9 months ago. I can definitely tell when I haven't taken it and I realize that I still need it, but to be fair, I probably should have been on medication earlier. Your hormones are still wacky and will be for awhile, but I would definitely discuss your concerns with your doc. Together you can come up with a good treatment plan.

  • I was able to go off my meds at 4 months, but I have had highs and lows. I agree with what you said-- highs like euphoria, and very low lows. But I haven't had bad enough swings to go back on the meds, although there was one time in February where I considered it.

However, for what you describe, I'd call your doctor. They may need to change your meds or your dosage. I was also on Lexapro and the dosage just needed to be adjusted.

  • I actually didn't get diagnosed until 1 yr post partum.  I had drastic weight loss and I was snippity all of the time.  I finally went to the dr and got diagnosed.  It is now 2.5 years post partum and I am still on my meds.  I hope to go off this summer to TTC.  My symptoms are drastic weight loss, fatigue, and very easily irritable.  Good luck!

  • I was diagnosed I think right before you were and I am still taking my meds and have enough refills to last me until we TTC again. I don't ever miss a pill so I don't really know how I am not on it but it's working for me so I don't see a problem finishing off my refills
