Help with J's birthday gift, ride on or motorized?

We are getting him a John Deere tractor for his Bday. he is obsessed with tractors and loves to sit on my neighbors riding mower, lol.

Anyways, DH and I have been debating.. should we go with the motorized?

Or pedal?

I like the pedal idea because he can use it now and would be tting exercise. But then again the motorized one would "grow" with him more....

Any thoughts? experiences?

Thanks!

  • I would get the pedal one. We never had motorized ones growing up because my dad used to say they were for the "lazy kids," so I guess that's kind of stuck with me. Baby C will not have motorized, either. Not enough opportunities for exercise these days anyway.

  • You could get the pedal one for now and consider getting a Power Wheels Jeep or something similar in a couple years.  My sister and I had a Jeep and drove that thing into the ground.  We went through batteries and wheels like nothing.  Anyway, if you get something powered, it might be nice to get something with room for both kids at once.  Then they only argue over who drives, not who gets to play with it.  FWIW, I loved my PW Jeep so much that my dad has already said he'll buy one for Allison when she's older.
  • I think Lori's idea of getting a ride on later that will fit both kids is a good idea :)

  • I would get the pedal one. It will make him work harder, but a little exercise is not harmful. Now i'll tell you this. I was picking Ayden up from the sitters and a little girl drove her barbie car in the street and I almost hit her. My heart dropped when that happened. Probably even stopped for a second. She came out from behind a parked car. Her dad was outside, but wasn't watching her. I let him hear a few words I had to say. They probably went in one ear and out the next. But I also think it is the parents resposibility to teach, and supervise their children about their toys. Which i'm most certain you will do =) I also like loriz idea.
  • I would definitely go with the pedal one at his age, I got Ryleigh the Dora Quad power wheels for her 2nd birthday and she didn't really understand how to ride it, she didn't get full use out it until around 3!

P.S.  If anyone is looking for a Dora Quad Power Wheel...I'm looking to sell it!!  :)    It's basically this ....

  • I'm sure he'd love either, but I agree with the other's posters suggestion of getting a double-rider so both kids can share a couple years down the road. Our neighbor has a John Deere double-rider and I have never seen Nora so happy the first time she got to ride shot-gun next to her little buddy.
