I LOVE it! I had an awful time with the pill, but the mirena has been amazing. When I was nursing, it didn't affect my milk supply at all, and I don't have any of the side effects I had with the pill. The only downside was that I spotted for about three months, but at that time post-partum sex was still very painful so I was actually pretty thankful to have that excuse to fall back on. I only spot for a day or two on my period now though, so that's the good thing.
Insertion was a bit uncomfortable, about the same pain if they ever stripped your membranes. Take some motrin beforehand and you'll be fine!
I think I'll like mine more in a few months. I had it inserted about 3 weeks ago and have been bleeding every since. Actually I'm now just spotting, but the doctor thinks it induced my period right away and being my 1st pp period it was really heavy. I didn't even feel insertion though I did take 3 advil ahead of time.
I still don't know how I feel about it, really, and I've had it since August 2008.
Pros-
-not having to remember to take a pill
-somewhat lighter AF
CONS-
-breaking out like a teenager
-gaining weight
-AWFUL AF. It lasts for 2 weeks, and I only get a 2 week break in between. I'm not one of those lucky girls whose AF stops, apparently. My cramps have been slightly worse than without the IUD, too.
I can't decide if I want to have this thing yanked out or not. I think after the 1 year mark if it doesn't start to get better, it's coming out.
