Usually crab is already cooked. We eat dungeoness crab just like it is- we rinse and crack the claws and bodies, put the pieces in a big bowl, and go to town, with cocktail sauce, salad, bread, vino... in front of a fire on a cold winter night,,, mmmmmmm SO GOOD!
But, sounds like maybe you have King Crab? Those are more like the "crab legs" I think. I think those are already cooked too. I'd serve it with melted butter for dipping, and you could do "surf anf turf" with a steak or just serve salad and bread. I'm not too familiar with that kind of crab!
I hate crab. But I've cooked and served my share of it.
Boil it (about 10 minutes) - you really don't need crab seasonings - a little salt goes a long way. After boiling, then plunge in cold water to cool it quickly.
They are easy to crack open with a walnut cracker thingy. (?) And just pull out the meat with a fork - a small one if you have it.
Serve with melted butter to dip in. Wilted spinach is great with it as a side.
instead of dipping in butter, you can also bake in butter.
If the crab legs are cooked (if not cooked, cook the crab first), you just crack them, and toss with melted butter and crashed/finely chopped garlic, put in the oven and bake for 8-10 min. then top with finely chopped parseley.
We boil them with a little liquid crab boil for about 10 minutes. If you don't have it I'm sure salt and pepper (cayenne if he likes spicy!) would work. We also boil new potatoes, onion, garlic, mushrooms and corn on the cob with it, although you may need to start the potatoes sooner since they may take longer depending on the size. Serve with melted butter. Yummy!
I think we're going to have to do some of these for Mother's Day!
Re: how do you cook/serve crab?
I have no idea how to cook it, but if it were me, I'd just have a bucket of crab and maybe some dinner rolls. I'm easy peasy like that.
Ooh, and lots o' butter....mmmmmm!
Did you get the ones from Costco? Heat up the crab legs in the oven for a few minutes just so they are warm and serve it with butter.
For sides...cheddar biscuits, salad, fries?

Yummy !!! We love to get fresh crabs from Half Moon Bay.
We usually knock them off with the back of a big knife, then steam them (two crabs at the same time) for 15-20 min. We eat them with mayonnaise.
