Babies: 0 - 3 Months

wwyd?

Hi my ds just went for his 2 month checkp the other day,and the dr said he has below average tone for his upper body,i asked if there is anything i can do for him,and he just said we'll wait and see how he is at his 4 month appt, which actually isn't for 2 1/2  months, should i just wait it out and see if he gets stronger in a few months,or should i call early intervention now and have a physical therapist come out to evaluate him, wwyd?thanks!!

Re: wwyd?

  • I would have him evaluated by a physical therapist.  I noticed Kate was turning her head right more than left.  I asked my pedi about it because I didn't want her to get a flat spot.  Now I'm taking her to phys therapy.  It's helpful because they show you things you can do at home.

Did the dr give you any suggestions on what to do - more tummy time maybe.  I think insurance won't pay for a visit unless the baby is so many months delayed,  I just can't remember how big the delay is.

2 months is still very young, my friend who has a baby with extreme low tone didn't get therapy until the baby was almost 10 months.  And that was considered early for therapy.

I guess it depends on your insurance.  All I needed was for my pedi to prescribe an evaluation for phys therapy for it to be

Sorry--computer issues.  I just wouldn't want to wait too long since it could affect other areas of development such as crawling and sitting up.  At least if you got the evaluation you could get some tips on what to do at home.
