Think back to your early baby days with DC...

When did you start solids?

My friend is giving her 4 month old fruits and veggies already.  Just wondering if I'm the oddball trying to wait until we are closer to 6 months.

Ian started rice around 5 months, veggies closer to 6 and fruits after that.

Re: Think back to your early baby days with DC...

  • Just about 1 week shy of 6 months with both girls.  Both were thriving on bm or formula, so I saw no need to change things.

  • I started DD on cereal at 5mths to help with reflux and then fruits and veggies at 6mths. I went right to veggies at 7mths with DS and skipped cereal altogether.?

  • I started DD on cereal at 4 months and veggies/fruits at 5-6 months......but I regretted it.  That is when she stopped gaining weight as well and I figured it probably had to do a little bit with that.  DS is gaining really well and I don't want to start him on cereal until maybe 5 months...unless he starts showing signs that he is ready for it earlier. But really....he is perfectly content with his mama's milk right now, so I don't really want to mix it up quite yet.

  • Mia started getting cereal around 4 months, then maybe a few spoonfulls of fruits and veggies shortly there after. She was already drinking over 30oz of formula a day at that point and there was no trying to cut back. She's what I like to call an "aggressive eater".

  • I started DD on rice cereal at about 5.5 almost 6 months.  She was born 6 weeks early and just wasn't ready for it yet.  She began eating fruits and vegetables about 3 weeks later.
  • Rice cereal at 4 mos, on doctor's rec because she was severely underweight.

    Fruits/veg around 5-6 mos.

  • My kids didn't like cereal alone, so I pretty much started with fruits mixed with cereal around 4-5 months, veggies + cereal early on too.  They are both good eaters and we haven't had any problems.

  • DD1 - 3.5 mo.  It was during her "bottle boycott" - she was already grabbing our food.  She did great.

DD2- 5 mo.  She gagged on everything until we let her feed herself at 9 mo.  I cannot feed her applesauce, yogurt, anything now!

  • I think we did it at 5 months. We tried cereal, DD hated it and we went right to fruits and veggies.

  • Evan didn't even have cereal until he was over 6 months old. It was summer and we were traveling a lot. I was lazy and didn't feel like starting something new :-)

I waited till six months both times, but I think anywhere from 4-6 is typical.
  • DS started on rice cereal at 4 months. Carrots at 4.5 months, and now at 5.5 months he'll eat any stage 1 fruit or veggie.
