Refusing Solids at 8 months - Help!

We started feeding DS solids at 6 months and for a while there it seemed to be going well. He was eating about 1/2 to 1 jar of baby food twice per day. Now I can barely get him to open his mouth for the spoon and he screws up his face when he tastes flavors he used to like. I can only get him to eat a few tablespoons of unflavored oatmeal or cereal a day.

Did your LO go through a period of refusing solids? Was it related to teething? Should I cut back on bottles to get him to eat more? I don't know what to do anymore, please help! :)

Re: Refusing Solids at 8 months - Help!

  • We started with solids at four months, and by five months, DD was regularly taking solids. She has three teeth and continues to teethe, but even so, she has never stopped taking solids because of the pain. DH and I just notice an overall disinterest in food. When she's teething, she eats less.

I would try feeding him solids when he's most hungry. I would also recommend mixing the rice/oatmeal with a fruit or veggie. He still needs his milk so cutting back on bm/formula probably isn't a good idea. GL.
