How much attention do you pay to what the initials might spell out? I think its pretty important, DH not so much. Our situation......DH and I are pretty set on middle names; we both have family middle names and we'd like to keep that going with our children. The problem that we're running in to is for a boy, that puts us with "first initial. A. G." DH's initials are TAG which is fine. But there are lots of combos that I don't think are ok: BAG, LAG, SAG, GAG, RAG, NAG....etc.
Therefore, I'm trying to stay away from considering a lot of names that start with those intials. DH says I'm overanalyzing. What say you?
Oh, and for a girl, we're looking at the possibility of O.R.G. which isn't great, but I think I can live with it.
Re: How important are initials?
I feel the same about initials. DH and and I both liked the name Vincent, but I refused to use it after I realized his initials would be VD.
If you really love a name, though, I think you can get past initials.
I would not be concerned about intials unless they spell something really negative , like a curse word or something similar.
Things like LAG or ?NAG don't really bother me.
People don't use their initials that often. My DH has his initials on his high school class ring, and that is the only time I can think of. ?Girls could have monograms I guess, but I don't really like those so it wouldn't be an issue to me if I had a baby girl.

Interesting...thanks for the thoughts ladies! I guess I've had several jobs where my initials were part of my log on or company ID, and other instances where I've definitely used my initials, so that's why I'm giving it thought. But you're right, most of them aren't THAT bad. I'd just hate to send my kid to soccer practice with the initials LAG and have him be the slowest kid on the field or something......yeah, over analytical I suppose, but I want to make sure I'm thinking through everything before I saddle my kid with something horrible! thanks!!
lol- i think ORG is worse than half the things listed on your boy list (bag, lag, rag, etc). It makes me think of orgy
i think it is important to be careful with what they spell- but honestly something like bag is not a big deal at all
Proud mama to a boys- 6/17/09 - a girl 2/23/11- and a boy 8/20/12
Ditto this. I have a friend who's initials are ASA. She was freaking when she seriously dated a guy whose last name ended w/ an S. She didn't want to be an ASS..
with DD, I made sure her mn didn't start w/ a K, that way if she married a guy w/ a last name starting w/ a K, it wouldn't be 3 Ks! And I'm sure I only thought of that because of my friend...
Otherwise, I wouldn't worry so much about things like NAG or whatever..

I don't think I would worry about it too much. I might avoid gag. The others, for a boy, aren't that bad.
ORG does make me think of orgy but hopefully the kids won't (you never know though).
I have had jobs and school stuff that used my first and middle initial plus my last name as a log in so I keep that in mind. My phantom DD would currently be AKC or KKC.
That was my first thought when I saw ORG
