BFing/Pumping Help

I was EBFing my boys until I came back to work when they were 16weeks.  Since then I have been supplementing with a few oz of formula, pumping at work and BFing when I am at home.

I am on the fence about continuing to pump, I feel like my supply is going down during the day. I have tried the teas, more water, etc and it has not helped.  I would like to still BF in the morning and at night but not pump during the day.

Has anyone done this, or something similar, and has it worked?

 TIA

Re: BFing/Pumping Help

  • I continued to pump at work the entire time I BF'd my daughter.  So I don't have personal experience, but I considered doing just that.  At 5 months I would say your supply is pretty regulated and if you want to drop day time feedings go for it.  Your supply will match demand and make enough for mornings and nights.  The one reason I didn't do it is b/c I wanted to be able to nurse on weekends and I didn't want to increase my supply on weekends and decrease it on weeks b/c I would have been engorged, plugged ducts, etc.  So if you're going to do it during the work week I think you have to continue the same schedule all week long if that makes sense.
  • I pumped at work until my boys were 15.5 months old. Then I nursed them daily at home while I was home all summer (I am a teacher) at 18m in august, Sumner self weaned, and I continued nursing Jack until he self weaned at 21m. He took milk at daycare.

  • I exclusively pump for my kiddos for the last 9 months. It's hard work, but worth it.
