You don't know what size and you won't know until about a week after baby arrives. Don't bother for now. Wait for a week or so (just wear nursing tanks or a big sports bra for a while then go shopping and get measured. Trust me...
I jsut got a couple last week. my boobs haven't changed since early 2nd tri.. the lady at the store said to buy it small in the band size as your ribs are the frist thing to go smaller... just use a band extender until the band size fits you... she also said that you should have enough room to comfortably fit 2 fingers in either side of the bra which allows for you to put in nursing pads without any trouble and also allows for your boobs to expand some. I would suggest getting one or two and then waiting to see how your boobs change once you're actually nursing. That's what I'm going to do.
You can buy bras any time after 34 weeks (that's what my LC said). I went to the store thinking I was a 34C and ended up buying 36D. The style of bra I got does not have defined cups, it's actually a sleep nursing bra, so they will expand when my milk comes in. I plan on getting some "nicer" nursing bras with underwire and padded cups after my milk has come in and my size has settled down.
I got 1 cheap nursing bra up 1 cup size just to have right away. And then I got a nursing tank that just stretches. I'll go and buy nice nursing bras once I actually know how big I'll be.
I bought one sports bra type nursing bra for the hospital in one size up and then I will go back after my milk comes in to buy the rest. Thats what I did with my DS and it worked well. If only I could find my old nursing bras........
I also bought a stretchy sleep bra and will purchase a regular underwire once I have given birth. I am sure a few days with a tight bra won't kill me if I get bigger right away.
During my first pregnancy, I bought a couple of nursing bras towards the end of the 3rd tri. I just bought up a cup size and they ended up fitting fine. I also had a couple of nursing tanks on hand just in case the bras didn't fit.
Okay for those waiting until after to buy....when do you plan on going to get them? Are you really going to feel up to it?
I bought a Bravado nursing tank/bra that I will use at first and then plan to go get fitted and buy some more after a week or so. Not sure if I will feel completely up to it but I have to take the baby to the pediatrician anyways and the nursing bra place is nearby. I'll make my mom go with me, too. Honestly, at like $50 apiece I don't want to buy the wrong size. I'm usually a 32DD, which is super annoying to fit and I can't even imagine what size to get after my milk comes in!
I think I'm going to buy only one and wait until after my milk comes in to buy any others. I'm completely clueless to the whole thing so I think waiting would be best for me.
