Have you heard of this? I saw a news release on it. Details are at www.intelligender.com. It's a urine test you can do at home after 10 weeks. It's supposed to be 82% accurate at home (90% in the manufacturer's lab). It's sold at Walgreens for about $35. I'm undecided about whether to use it. My concern is that I'll be disappointed if the results turn out to be wrong.
Re: PSA: Walgreens gender test
Meh, it's more of a novelty than anything. If you want to "find out" that early, just know that there is a margin of error, and don't go buy everything for the nursery just b/c of that test. I'm curious, but not so curious that I can't hold out a few more weeks for my big u/s.

Ok-
There are only 3 ways to know- ONe of which is only sometimes accurate-
1) Ultra sound between 18-22 weeks. sometimes innaccurate but more often times than not it is right
2) Amnio- But you shouldnt get this done just for gender purposes. because thats just silly-
3) pop the kid out and SURPRISE! there ya go-
everything else is just nonsense and a waste of time and money
You're going to get alot of snark and some of the following comments "It's 50% accurate", "It's a boy, now give me the $35" or the infamous "Urine doesn't contain DNA."
Honestly, I was tempted to get (for fun, of course) until I read that women with PCOS always get a false reading, a boy.

The independent lab testing shows something more like a 65% accuracy rating. They sell it at my grocery store for $25 - so you are getting even more ripped off if you buy it at Walgreen's.
I think it could be fun. I've mercilessly teased DH that if I make it that far, I'm totally doing the test, but I wouldn't put stock in the result at all.
There may be better ways to spend your money, but if you want to do it, go ahead. Just don't be disappointed if the u/s shows something else (and remember, even u/s isn't 100% accuracy).

Well damn, that rules me out for trying it then. Do you know what it is about PCOS that always gives the boy reading? Does it only do that if you have elevated testosterone levels?
My guess - without knowing for certain - is that it gives boy readings for PCOS women because PCOS women generally (not always, but in general) have higher levels of testosterone.
I would gues the test changes color based on the presence or absence of testosterone in the urine.
Which would explain the wide margins of error in independent testing.

I'm not sure. Not surprisingly, the website doesn't state why it gives a false reading....
What if I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom) or am on Progesterone treatment?
We recommend that you do not test while on Progesterone (wait 10 days from last dose) or at all if you have PCOS as you will likely get a ?boy? result and IntelliGender cannot represent the accuracy of this result.

does this even qualify as a psa? Im thinking it should just be called walgreens gender test-your ideas?
just saying
this - the testes in boy babies start to produce testosterone around 10-12 weeks, so that's supposedly what the test measures.
Hmm, so if you knew you had normal testostrone levels, it could potentially still work for you? Not that I'm going to waste my $35 bucks- I have much better things to spend that money on. I just like to know how things work.
4) CVS testing. Similar to an Amnio but done in the first trimester.
That's what I was thinking. This is not a PSA.
hee hee ok 4! (Thanks Leap08)
but still point made.
It has been in walgreens ad on sale for 29.99. I wouldn't be abel to truast it completely and wouldn't start buying stuff until I had the ultrasound anyway so ti would be a waste of money for me.
You know, I was thinking about doing it, only to see if it would be right (only one way to prove accuracy on something). Good to know about the PCOS though as I have it =(
