Success after IF

Anyone take Nifedipine/Procardia during pregnancy?

My pharmacist told me this is a class "c" drug and it is not know the side effects in pregnancy. I only started it Monday late night and will probably only take it til next Wednesday.

Are you taking it for high BP or contractions?

I have seen my BP creep up lately and am scared when I am taken off of it that it will be high.

Thanks!?

  • yes- it is class C- but so are many drugs that are commonly used during pg.

i took it from 32w -36w when i delivered... it was for PTL, but my BP was also getting high, too.

by the time they take you off- you will be ready to deliver- so i wouldn't worry about your BP.

  • Yeah, except I will be off at 36 weeks and my induction isn't until 37. I figure they will just monitor me, but I still have contractions on the meds so I figure my body is ready to go.

A week on this stuff is definitely worth not having them in the hospital for a week or two.

    Thanks for responding!!!!

  • I am on Nifedipine and have been for almost 7 weeks now. I am on it for contractions after I was hospitlized at 29 weeks for PTL. I will be on it until Friday when they are taking me off of it. It has helped with the contractions up until this week. My contractions are breaking through more and more so we will see how long I go once they take me off. Going to 36 weeks on it is common as you are very close to full term.

  • I'm taking it.  My OB isn't concerned, so I'm not.
  • I've been taking it twice a day for the last 5 weeks. I was hospitalized and put on bedrest for PTL and a shortened cervix so I'm taking it for contractions.?

  • I took it for PTL from 26w-34w.  Everything with DD was fine...

I was taking it from 30-35w6d every 4 hours. I was on PTL and my bp was creeping up. DS was born at exactly 36 weeks less than 24 hours after the last pill. He was perfect and was observed in the NICU for 2 hours after birth. He is a happy and healthy 8 month old.
  • ...In case you're still checking this message... I took procardia for PTL (non-painful but sometimes regular or just kind of crazy contractions, along with advanced cervical dilation and 100% effacement) starting around 27 weeks and remained on it until 35 weeks.  My doctors weren't concerned, and my babies (who were born less than two days after stopping the procardia) seem just fine!
