Jake's birthday party was supposed to be yesterday (rescheduled from the Sunday before because he was sick -flu) Well, Saturday he spiked a fever and I took him to urgent care (it was 105) They traumatized my poor baby. They did a strep test, cleaned out his ears and looked for an EI, then sent him for a chest xray. He was so scared and didn't feel good at all... and the results: no strep, no EI, but he has a bronchial infection. Lovely. They put him on antibiotics and said to follow up with pedi today. So, he was STILL having fevers (not as bad though) on Sunday and this morning, took him in and they were pissedoff because Urgent Care didn't send the strep test off to culture-they just did the rapid test. And Jake has bumps and something on his throat, so the pedi said he has strep. GRREEAAATTT. So, he has a bronchial infections AND strep, they up'd the dose of antibiotic and said he should be fine in a day or less. I came home and gave him his dose of med and then he ate lunch and took a nap, when he woke up he was in a GREAT mood.
I said they traumatized him because when we pulled up at the pedi Jake realized we were going to see doctors and FAreeekked out. He held on to me so tight and was screaming and crying-basically inconsolable. When the resident doc came in, he was really nice and tried to ease in to him but Jake wouldn't give in. So, he decided to not try to examine him since the attending had to do it again anyway. When the attending came in Jake was a little more accepting and actually calmed down and let him look him over-completely willingly. (but it took a LOT of patience and time) So, Jake re-gained his trust in docs.
Sorry this is so long... I just had to get it all out there.
Re: ugh.. whatta crappy wknd.
:-( Poor guy.?
It's so hard to watch them go through that stuff. Maddie had 4 pneumonia's in 10 months when she was younger. Usually we were in the ER with a high temp, then they would do gobs of stuff to her and then had to have dr. visits to make sure everything was working OK. She would go apeshit when we had to do the follow ups at the dr.
Hopefully he feels better soon!?
