Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone has gotten PG or knows if you can get PG if your husband has prostatitis? My fiance and I just found out that he has chronic prostatitis and I am worried. We arent TTC quite yet because we are waiting till we get married but I can't stop wondering how this will affect our chances when we TTC. Thanks!!!
Re: Prostatitis and Infertility
Have you talked to your dr. about this?
If I remember correctly, my dad had BPH for several years, including his reproductive years, and it never affected anything.
My husband had chronic prostatitis and epidymitis for over a year. It got better for awhile after antibiotics, then would come back again. He took several different antibiotics and finally had to break out the big guns, doxycycline, to finally get rid of it. His SA at the time came back as "normal" in terms of count, motility, and morphology.
It wasn't until our first visit with an RE that it was noted that the results indicated a higher than normal pH. The prostate provides 30% of the ejaculatory fluid, so problems can cause increased pH, thicker than normal ejaculate, and decreased motility. We decided on IUI's to eliminate that problem, but no luck yet. His follow-up SA after the antibiotics was normal. I also have borderline DOR, so that may be a factor.
I would encourage you to make sure his MD is treating it aggressively and with the proper antibiotics. It wouldn't hurt to get a SA now to see how it is affecting the numbers. Good luck and best wishes for your upcoming wedding!
Thanks so much for the info! We will definitely look into getting a SA sooner than later. I am really glad that we are switching to a new Dr. that will hopefully try something else. Prostatitis sucks! Best of luck with everything.
