I took DD in for her 4 month checkup this morning and the pedi wants me to get a stool sample from DD. I picked up the kit at Children's Hosp and the woman in the lab said it can't come from inside her diaper!?! Does anyone have any tips on how to get a stool sample from a baby without getting it from in her diaper? (The nurse said I can tape a plastic baggie to her bottom but I'm not quite sure of the logistics of that- do I just leave it taped on all day until she poops? Won't it hurt to pull the tape off? How do I tape it so that it holds the poop but doesn't get pee in it?)
Re: Collecting stool sample from LO?
I have to put it in four little jars, three of them have liquid in them and I just have to fill until the liquid reaches a certain line. So I'm not really sure how much it's going to be. Evidently the diaper soaks up what they need to test?? As far as when she poops- yesterday she pooped right when she woke up in the morning while we were still sleeping, and then today she pooped in the car on the way home from Children's (of course). So I guess she doesn't really have a specific time.
Hmmm.. the saran wrap might not be that bad of an idea. They just said that they prefer it to not have any urine mixed in so I'm not sure how that works. I may have to try that (and just put her in a onesie that we don't mind throwing away afterwards).
