People can be total morons with names. My name is Alyssa and I've gotten EVERYTHING thrown at me with that one. My best friend's is name Natalia and she says people call her Natalie all the time. Seriously people...get it right!
My SIL's mom is named Marisa. When we first heard the name we called her my brother's wife's mom because Ma-ree-sa is awkward to say. I love Marissa, but not Marisa. I've never heard of the name Marisa until we met her.?
My name is spelled Marisa. My parents pronounce it Ma-ree-sa, but teachers, relatives, and other kids always pronounced it Marissa. I think the ambiguous pronounciation has bothered other people, but to me, it truly doesn't make that much of a difference--I think both names are beautiful. But if you can't stand the idea of someone calling your daughter Marissa, you should go with another name. It's driven my parents crazy for the past 28 years:)
Re: Better than Marissa?
It will be pronounced the same as Marissa (it is the same, essentially) until you correct people.

Ditto this?
I think people will pronounce it Marissa either way.
If you look at babynamesworld.com, that is the main complaint by people with the name.
Even famous people like Marisa Tomei and Marisa Miller are pronounced "Marissa" by the media and most people.
ditto. So no, I still dont like the name.?
if you spell it like that... i think she'll always have to correct people.
if you want Ma-rees-a - i would spell it Maurisa or something like that....
