Lorelei or Lorelai?

Just toying with this name, not sure how I feel about it.  But Lorelei is the more common spelling, even though I think I prefer "Lorelai".  Does "Lorelai" look like it's spelled wrong?

I actually don't think it looks wrong, and it may be better for pronunciation. I might say Lor- a- lee if I saw Lorelei. I am sure many will disagree with me.

I think the "a" does look wrong for some reason. If you were going to use it, I think it should be spelled with the e.

I like it with the 'a' better. Maybe it's because it's the way it was spelled on Gilmore Girls and I've never seen it any other way. I personally LOVE the name, but it sounds weird with our last name.

My friend just had a baby girl and named her Lorelai with an "a". I really like it!

I like Lorelei. Typically, the "ei" sound says "eye."

Lorelai is the only way I've seen it spelled before. I love it.

I like Lorelai. Lorelei makes me want to say Lor-eh-lay, and Lorelai I say Lor-eh-lie.

I would say 'lei' = "lee"

I would say lai = "lie"

I don't know if that's the correct way to say them -- but it would just depend on how I wanted them pronounced how I would spell it.

I think b/c of GG's ppl are now using the -ai spelling although as far as I know the traditional spelling is -ei.  I do like the -ai spelling though.

Lorelai would technically be pronounced Lorel"eye" like Nicolai - if you want it to be Lorelee, go with the first spelling.

I don't think Lorelai is misspelled.  I've certainly seen that as an acceptable variant before.

Since the name Lorelei has German origin the correct spelling would be Lorelei. (In German e before i is pronounced 'eye', and e after i is pronounced as a long e)
