SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many restrictions out there!!!!!!!!!!! How did our parents turn out normal when they drank, smoke, gasp ate deli meat, etc...
Seriously! ?Out of four babies, I was the only one who my mom did not drink, smoke cigarettes and apparently pot with (classy, huh?). ?They didn't know back then though! ?I wonder what we all may be eating/drinking now that we'll find out in ten years is horrible for us!?
This is WOEFULLY alarmist. The "estrogens" are known as phytoestrogens, and they function differently that our "human" estrogens. They have very similar chemical structures, however which is what the research looks at. Also you'd have to consume A LOT of them for an effect. Plus you have to be extremely cautious with what you read on the internet. Was the info from a reliable source, like a scientific journal or just someones or some company's website? How do you know they where they got their info?
Now, you should avoid soy with infertility or those undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Its best to ask your DR before eliminating anything from your diet, espeically soy in which you use to replace lactose due to an intolerance. Plus, soy is a source of protein which is imporant in pregnancy. I drink soy milk everyday, and my baby is just fine and on schedule.
Please, take everything with a grain of salt and just don't not drink soy because of what someone found on the internet and posted on a message board. Look for the real reseach (ift.org, journal of food science, JAMA, journal of clinical nutrition, etc). Feel free to question credentials. Even mine if you wish (I have a BS and MS in Food Science, and I'm a RD).
Seriously? Soy can have an effect on fertility if eaten in HUGE quantities. Soy milk is not horrible for pregnant women. Come on.
It's like throwing the baby out with the bathwater, huh? Just keep on adding stuff to the list of no-nos and pregnant women will be stuck sipping water and munching on unsalted crackers for 9 months ...
I really dislike alarmist posts and this is one of them. Soy, especially in the quantities most people on here consume, is just fine for pregnant women.
when i was pregnant with my son ( over 5 years ago) they had a study that said if you drink soy while pregnant and you were having a boy that it inhibited the groth of male reproductive organs. yikes. havent heard anything since then though. i kinda thought it was just a myth. i hope so cause i just had a big ole glass.
I had heard this too and when i asked my doctor about it, she said that was silly and that soy is great during pregnancy because it's packed with protein. I can tell you that a lot of people have soy allergies which are usually mild so if it upsets your stomach or you have any reactions you might want to avoid it. I still think everything in moderation is just fine!!!

Thank you for being the voice of reason. One of my big pet peeves is when people make decisions based on "research" without examining if the research is valid.

Re: did you know? soy products
It's because of the estrogen that is produced by soybeans.?
The actual effects are still in debate. But it's definitely worth researching. ?
