Well, I certainly won't look at you like you have two heads, because I have gotten the same type of responses at times for not vaccinating DS.
I really admire your desire to be in tune with your baby, and I think you can also do that without going totally diaperless. I held DS as much as I possibly could for the first few months..and kept him close but let him explore as he got older. We are definitely AP parents. But the diaperless thing, as other pp's have said, I just think it would be beyond difficult with a newborn.
Don't worry though Mama Bear. You will be great, and being a mom is one of those experiences where you defintely do learn things as you go along.
Have you been on mothering.com? There are some EC'ers over there who could probably give you alot of support and offer up some experiences. GL to you and congrats!
Well actually, you are so much more of an idiot b/c you are not vaccinating. Magnitudes. The OP is simply being silly. You can kill people with your choices.
I'm going to second this. Your child hasn't had ANY vaccinations? How is your child going to go to school? I wouldn't want my children NEAR other children without their vaccines. Isn't that like child abuse?
OMG. People. Yes, of course there are lots of people who choose not to vaccinate. There always have been due to eligious reasons, medical reasons, lack of medical acces and yes, due to irrational fears. Vaccines are not a legal requirement. In most states you do not have to get vaccinated to attend school, you just have to fill out a form that says you're not vaccinated.
But here's the best part... YOUR kid is vaccinated, right? Then YOUR kid is SAFE from whatever other people don't vax against. So why does this bother you so much? Talk about irrational fears.
Ahem, it's called herd immunity. Look in to it. Are you an educated person at all? It is pathetic when people post something like this and don't realize how dumb it makes them look.
Yes, I have looked into it because I considered not vaccinating my child. But as long as 70-80% of the "herd" stays vaccinated, then your kid is safe.
I have two master's degrees, so yes, some might considered me to be educated.
Are you aware that there are ways to express your opinion without vicious attacks on others? And that name-calling and unprovoked attacks make you look uneducated and mean-spirited?
The SAHM board is usually a nice board, please go back to wherever you came from.

I NEVER agree with AlisaS, but for this she is absolutely correct. We have a 5 week old on our floor right now that has been here for Pertussis for weeks. She is so incredibly sick and is suffering so much. She cannot even eat right now because her ribs hurt her so much from coughing.
ithadtobeyou, you put little lives like this at risk by not vaccinating you child.
Yes, herd immunity works when 70-80% of the herd is vaccinated, but what happens when more people "educate" themselves and decide to forgo vaccinations? Herd immunity goes way way down. It's nice that you have the luxury of herd immunity now, but if this trend continues, you're pretty muchfvcked.

And it's already happening - look at the resurgence of diseases that had been pretty much erradicated in the US.

For being so "educated" on this matter, you really are not at all. So many people are choosing not to vax now that there will be no herd immunity in 10 or so years.
Here is some advice next time really do the research before talking out your ass.
Rather than calling her stupid and uneducated, why not ask her WHY she doesn't vaccinate?
If she has stupid reasons, then you can address those directly, which will be far more effective than just calling her names. If she has not-so-stupid reasons, you might learn something, even if you still disagree with her conclusions.
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)

What? Debate a topic rather than just resorting to childish name-calling and bashing other moms? How civil.
Actually, I do vaccinate my child. But I did do research into it. I was simply defending someone else from AlisaS's original attack because I thought it was so rude and horrible.
I believe that an "educated person" should not blindly accept everything that comes out of a doctor's mouth. This seems to be especially true with pediatricians who seem to often pass on great advice to parents like "it's safe to turn your baby's carseat around at 1year and 20lbs" even though years of research have proven that this is simply not true. But I digress. There are risks to everything and even things that are right for most children might not be right for yours.
I'd also like to point out that some vaccines do not last throughout life. The pertussis that was mentioned earlier is one of those. By the time you reach your teens, you're probably not immune to it anymore (maybe you got a booster before college, but have you gotten one every 10 years? Few people do.). So if you're looking at the entire US population as "the herd", then more than 50% are not vaccinated and can pass the sickness to an infant. So grandma is just as likely to act as a carrier and pass it to her grandbaby as someone else's unvaccinated child is.

Jesus - a shining example of education wasted.
Sorry OP - had to respond to the Vax stuff.
