WDYT? Little boys peeing on trees at the park?

DD had a playdate today with a cousin (boy). They were at the park the next block over and at the playground. There were a couple of boys from the neighborhood there too. Everyone was playing and having a good time. One of the little boys had to go potty, so his mom took him to some trees a ways away from the playground and then used hand sanitizer on his hands afterwards.

My DH's cousin totally flipped out and said that if her DS had to go to the potty they would leave the park and that is just disgusting. She kept going on and on about it so we left.

It's not a big deal to me, maybe it's because I grew up with boys or maybe I appreciate that the fact that he was removed from the situation and didn't pee on the slide. Is it really that gross?

  • what if there was no time to go home?  Its not a big deal to me as long as they go far enough back so the other kids don't see (like little girls lol)

  • I don't think it is a big deal at all and I think lots o mamas  need to chill out. (Some) people care waaay to much about the smallest/dumbest stuff.

  • I've taken Evan to a secluded tree to let him pee. ?We usually walk to the park, and it would take too long for us to get home. ?The couple of times it's happened, we've been the only ones at the park, but I'd probably still do it even if there were someone else there. ?I think your cousin is overreacting.

  • Okay - I don't feel so bad. I just didn't think it was a big deal

  • If the tree doesn't mind why should I? When nature calls ...

  • it would be a big deal if the tree was just a few feet away- near the play equipment- where a child might run over and sit down, etc...

but to go far enough away to do it- sure thing! I'd do that with my kids - there's no time to "leave" and go home with a young child.

  • hmm...well we walk to the park and it is about a 15 minute trek once we get into the stroller - pretty sure my kid would wet himself.  Lots of moms here bring tiny travel potties to the park.
  • This just happened at a park I was at.  But the boys weren't so little.  They were in grade school, like 5th grade & he ran over (not far enough away) to pee in the grass.  His dad told him that he can do it at home, but in a public place he needs to find the bathroom.  I think it may be understandable for a younger boy, but not a kid that knows better.
