Did you consider initials when naming DC?

#2 is a boy, and Benjamin James is the top of my name list. MH likes Benjamin, and James was my dad's name which I would really like to use for a middle name, but he has an issue with naming his son 'BJ'. I don't see it as a big deal, would you?  We have no intention of calling him by his initials no matter what they are.

Re: Did you consider initials when naming DC?

  • BJ would be the only combo I would intentionally avoid. otherwise, I wouldn't think anything of it.
  • Nah.  If you don't want him going by his initials, then others won't assume.  My niece's initials are G.A.S. but unless you know her middle name, people are not going to call her gas, kwim?

Ha! I did know that one.  Not that we need to really stress about this for a long time.  My sisters initials were HAM and after marriage HAH.  My dad was stressed about the HAM.  Must be a guy thing.

  • My top name choice for hypothetical daughter #2 spells ICK for initials. . . needless to say, I'm coming up with a different middle name.

  • I don't think it's a big deal unless you call him "BJ".  My HS boyfriend had BJ as his initials and he went by his first name, now one ever teased him about it.  I new another kid, no lie who went by BJ (his first and middle initial) and as if that wasn't bad enough his last name was pronounced
Jew Stee (I don't remember the spelling).  In that case I would avoid it.....but as long as you are going to call him Ben or Benjamin I don't think it's an issue

  • My cousin once worked at a company that had the policy of printing initials on the business cards.  He was very embarrassed to request an exception b/c his initials are A. S. S.  So, yes, I would take it into consideration.
