Trying to Get Pregnant

PCOS and ovulation

My husband and I aren't trying yet, but we are getting more serious about it.  I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago.  I'd like to know if I'm ovulating and start tracking my cycle.  In some of the PCOS research I've done it shows that certain tests (I think OPK) can sometimes give false positives for women with PCOS.  Is that true?  What about the other methods such as BBT and cervical fluid?

Much appreciated!

Re: PCOS and ovulation

  • I have PCOS and charting, monitoring my CM, and using OPKs all worked fine for me. I just had LOOONG cycles. I would suggest you try it and see how it goes. If you're going to use OPKs, definitely chart so you can confirm that you O'd.

  • If one of your PCOS symptoms is elevated LH levels, then yes, you'll get false positives (or can get false positives) on OPKs.  Doesn't affect anything else as far as I know.
  • I have PCOS, and I've never gotten a + opk, and the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor just gives me false highs and no peak.

I've found the best way to be charting and monitoring CM.

If you're not on Clomid, Vitex can also help you have more regular cycles, and you can get it at GNC.

    Good luck!

  • I haven't tried OPKs, but I'm pretty sure my BBT charting is accurate (and pointing to a long, anovolutary cycle). My cervical fluid has not been helpful, but that may be because I'm not ovulating, so there's no change to see. Good luck!
  • I was just?diagnosed?with PCOS. ?Every person with PCOS has different symptoms or factors. ?

I cannot use OPK's anymore because I would get a positive 95% of the time because my LH is so high. ?
