  • It really depends on the kid. If your child climbs out of things often then I'd say they're too old. Brittyn has never once climbed out of her crib and is still very content with her PNP.

  • OK he can't climb out of the pack n play but what is the weight limit?

He look so big in there. What am I supposed to put him in if he's grown out of it? We'll be on vacation for 4 months, and I don't think he's old enough to stay in a big boy bed (he's 2).

  • If it is a Graco pack n play, the weight limit is usually 30 lbs.  Other brands may have different weight limits for their playpens.

  • If you'll be on vacation for FOUR months, isn't that a bit too long to have any age child sleep in a PNP??  I'd look into renting a crib in that case.

That said, I have a similar dilemma with my 2 year old, he's just too big to fit comfortably in the PNP for our week-long vacation, so I think we'll be putting a mattress on the floor and praying to God that he'll sleep that way!

  • UGA - we're going on vacation in July and we're planning to have a crib brought to our room by the hotel (I know he'll either climb out of or knock over the pnp).  Is that an option for you?

Is there something wrong with sleeping in a PNP? We couldn't afford another crib, so our 11 month old has been sleeping in the PNP since she was born. If there's something wrong/dangerous about it, let me know!

PNP don't look very comfortable, the mattress is very thin and doesn't have a whole lot of support.

Ditto this. I feel bad letting DD sleep in one for a couple of nights. It just looks uncomfortable.

  • I'm with the others, I wouldn't want to use the pnp for an extended period of time.  That being said, ds still uses his pnp once in a while at 2.5 yrs.
  • We stopped using one with Evan when he started climbing out. ?Actually, he was already climbing out of the crib, so we got a crib tent. ?Then, we went on vacation for a week, and I was just hoping he'd stay in the pack 'n play. ?Nope. ?I think he literally hopped over the edge and was at the door screaming before I could close it. ?He was 19 months at the time. ?And then he refused to sleep in the crib with the tent when we got home.

At that point we just moved him to a real bed. ?It wasn't the smoothest transition, but he was sleeping fine in the bed well before he turned 2.

I also agree that 4 months is a long time for a kid-- especially a toddler-- to sleep in a pack 'n play. ?I feel bad when we go away for just a night or two and my younger son has to sleep in one. ?It just doesn't seem very comfortable.?

  • We went on vacation with my DD right before she turned 2.  We brought the PNP and she could not sleep in it.  It was way too cramped for her.  She tossed and turned and couldn't get comfortable.  We finally brought her into bed with us and she fell asleep.  We called down to the front desk the next day and asked if they had a crib we could use, and they said yes and they'd send it up.  A PNP which was smaller than ours was delivered.  Again she slept in bed with us.

Next month we are traveling again.  We aren't even bothering with the PNP.  She has been sleeping in a big girl bed (a full) since she turned 2, so we figure she will either sleep in the extra bed in the room or with us.

I know a lot of people living in small apartments whose dbs slept in PnPs for a year (at least) and they all turned out OK.

  • My DD never liked it, but we took a trip when she was 11 months that she refused to sleep in the pnp.  We got an air mattress after that.

  • Ah, I see. Just a comfort thing. We have an extra mattress (made for the PNP) in there and she's never seemed uncomfortable.
  • OK,well, way to make me feel bad! Uhhh my kid has been sleeping in a pack and play for a year. We moved and never put the crib together again- he's never had an issue sleeping in the PNP for the past year. I had a toddler bed set up in his room but he wouldn't ever even lay on it for 2 seconds.

The house we're staying at for 4 months has a single bed in his room, I guess I will try to put him in that bed. Now I feel bad!
