Mod Podge and glue gun question

If you used Mod Podge and scrap book paper for your wooden wall letters, what type did you get: satin finish, matte finish, or gloss finish?  Also, did you use it to put the paper onto the wood and then apply again as a top coat or did you just coat over the paper once as a top coat?  Any pics would help.

Also, recommend what type of glue gun you have and where you bought it from.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Mod Podge and glue gun question

  • I am not sure about other people, but I find the glossy Mod Podge to be sticky and attract dust like a magnet. So I'd go for satin if you want a light sheen or matte if you want no shine. It's up to you. And yes, the Mod Podge can be used to apply paper, then let it dry completely before applying the top coat of Mod Podge.

I have no idea what brand my glue guns are, but I buy them at Michael's or Joann. The big one is blue and the small one is gray. If you are only doing small projects and nothing heavy duty, you can get away with the little one. If you plan on using it a lot or for projects that will require lots of glue, get the bigger one.

  • i used the satin finish. you can use the modge podge to adhere the paper and to coat it. i have a few glue guns- no clue what brand either. got mine at michael's. (you're not using a glue gun for the letters/modge podge are you? there's no need for a glue gun unless it's for some other project..)

  • I used Satin finish and it looks great!  I used it as a glue and as a top coat.

My glue gun is just the cheap $5 one from wal-mart and I've had it for years. :)

  • No I'm not using the glue gun for the letters but I wanted to do some other craft projects.  I just wanted to make sure that the less expensive glue guns work as well as the more expensive ones.  Thanks for the mod podge tips ladies!
  • I found this link tonight... I plan on using it when I'm doing my letters!

In short, it recommends using a gloss Modge Podge and it instructs you to use the MP to apply the paper to the wood and again as a top coat.  GL!
