Babies: 0 - 3 Months

4 month mommas

The dr told us to put DD on a 3 meals a day schedule. She is doing fine with eating the food, actually too well. She no longer wants bottles, MIL called because DD was screaming for more food. She has taken about 10 oz of formula today, but has eaten cereal and bananas for breakfast and sweet potatoes and pears for lunch. Has anyone experienced this? Is there anything I can do to get her to drink more?

  • Sorry I don't have any advice, just wanted to say WOW how did you get her to eat cereal so well? My DD does not like cereal yet....can't seem to get that one down.

  • Cereal taste bad. So I would use diluted apple juice to make it taste better. Now she eats it with fruit, per dr orders.

  • #1 for the first year is formula.

If she is not taking a minimum of formula (24-32oz) per day then back off on food. Formula/BM is the PRIMARY source of nutrition and solid food is only for practice and palate building. Baby derives very little nutrition from solids until after the age of 1. Your Pedi should know this. It is basic gastro intest. development.

  • They didnt tell us to schedule 3 times, but I think were going to need to. We started about a week before he turned 4months like once a day - everyother day, just to get him used to it (and my mom was bugging me) By this last week - you cant feed him fast enough!! He LOVES just about anything we mix with cereal, right now he seems to still like his bottle, so no concerns there.
  • The more food you fill her up with the less she is going to want to take formual, I'm surprised the dr. said to do 3 meals a day.

I'm surprised too. That seems like WAY too much food for a 4 month old. It's highly recommended to not even start food until 6 months. Granted those that have LO's with reflux start sooner.
