Is low progesterone a symptom or cause of mc?

I have been reading up on this.  My progesterone was low last pregnancy (tested after I started bleeding), but the baby never developed and I lost it early.  My Dr. never said it was a blighted ovum, but I think that is what it was.  He had me on progesterone suppositories until we could confirm a mc.  Now he wants me to start progesterone immediately after a BFP.

I have never had my progesterone tested at any other time.  I would like to have it tested this time before I start the meds to see if I even need them.  Do you think this is unreasonable? 

Also, what are your thoughts on the symptom or cause of mc theories, particularly in relation to me?  I have one healthy 2 year old, and I never had to take the progesterone with him.

Not sure & wouldn't want to guess & give you the wrong answer.  Maybe ask your Doc next time you see him/her?  But - I wanted to give :::HUGS::: and say GL!!!

My doctor hates giving out meds and would not give me prometrium until I tested on 2 non-pregnant cycles.  I tested with low progesterone both times I m/c but didn't get tested until I started spotting.  So he said it could be a cause or result of already m/cing.  He sent me for labwork 7 days past ovulation on the following 2 cycles and my levels were low both times. He then put me on prometrium and tested me at 7 days past ovulation to make sure it worked and my levels were up in the appropriate range.  So definitely demand some progesterone tests at 7 days past ovulation to see what's going on.

My Re actual Tested mine at 7 DPO when i was under his care.  My Progestrone always seemed ok but, this past cycle he actaul put me on Endometrium which is a progestrone supp to help with implantation and it worked.

I would request to have your Progestrone test at 7 DPO this way they could put your supp earlier if needed.  You could also request that you go on progestron supp 3 DPO it can't hurt you. 

One's progestrone changes over time.  It could just mean that you had low progestrone with the 1 pregnancy and you'll be find other wise.  GL hope you get your BFP real soon.

Thanks, ladies.  I guess I should have been more clear.  I got a BFP yesterday, so it is too late for 7 dpo bloodwork.  I just heard back from my Dr., and I am to get bloodwork today though and start the progesterone tonight.  If the bloodwork comes back okay, then maybe I can stop the suppositories.

Low progesterone can be both. The cause of a mc and because you are mc. That is why it is soo controversial if you should take it once you already are pregnant to prolong a mc. Many girls are put on it though once they are pregnant. Typically, you start it 3 dpo so your lining becomes thick and helps with getting a good implantation and good nutrients to your baby.
