Question about failure to thrive and head size

Does anyone elses FTT baby have a large head that is not proporinate with their body ?  DS wears a 12-24 month hat that is starting to get tight because his head is so big, but he's still in 3-6 month and some 6-9/6-12 month (which is too big, but I refused to buy another season of 3-6 months...).  His head is 98% percentile and his weight is the 1st.  I'm just curious if anyone elses little one is like this.

 TIA!

Re: Question about failure to thrive and head size

  • My little guy  hasn't officially been diagnosed with FTT, but really it's just symantics. He's FTT.

Yeah, he has a GIGANTIC head - off the charts huge, while his little bitty body is off the charts tiny. It's good though - it means his body is shuffling the nutrition where it is the most needed :)

  • We're also not FFT but 0%tile in weight and 50%tile in head size. He's already almost out of 24 month hats and not too big for 12 month clothes.
  • Addie was FTT... her head LOOKED big... I look back at pictures and kinda laugh, and her weight was way low in percentile (like in the spot where you write on the chart) and her head was bigger, but it wasn't in THAT high of a percentage, like 10% maybe... it was usually pretty even with the height percentage she was at... she was just very low weight.
  • Robbie's FTT.. his body weight is wayyyyyyy off the chart even for adjusted age. I think he was around 25% actual for head size. Ditto Mrs. D. Just means the body is giving all the calories to the brain to grow, which is good.

  • Thanks ladies.  Its nice to know we're not the only ones in this situation.  We've had two neuro appointments and head ultrasounds and so far nothing has been found other than he has a large head.  Its actually stayed on the curve over the last 11 months which is more than I can say for his weight - one month we're at 3 and the next we're off the charts again.  I feel mean, but I call him my little bobble head Big Smile

We did the same thing :)  I think it is better to make fun than to stress about it!
