Cries whenever I put her down!

okay so today has been a nightmare. I hope it is not a trend. BUT my LO is almost 4 weeks old. She has pretty much been awake since 530 this morning with mabe 3 15 min naps. I am exhausted. She has been on me all day and when I go to put her down anywhere-(play mat, bassinet, etc) she is asleep for 10 min then wakes up crying until I pick her up...then nothing. I know she has to be tired! Any sugg?

  • Get yourself a comfortable baby carrier - I love the Moby wrap. DD was the same way, she was good until about 3 weeks and then got fussier and more clingy from 3-6 weeks and she never wanted to be put down. The Moby completely saved my sanity - she would sit and sleep in there without crying, but if I ever tried to put her down, she was hysterical. Around 6 weeks, I could let her fall asleep in the Moby, and then take her out and set her down and she'd stay asleep for an hour or so. Now, she'll finally tolerate being by herself for a while on the playmat or bouncy chair, but that's only started happening in the last couple of weeks.

  • My A was like that too at times.  She was always pretty happy- but a total cat napper.  Still, she takes her best naps on me or Dh, & only naps about 30ish min when we put her down.  We're working on it.  For the moment though it sounds like your lo is beyond tired.  If she can sleep on you, I'd let her then try again tomorrow or later once she catches up on some zzzs.  I'm definitely not the nap authority though!

  • ditto about the carrier.  moby is great, we also have a bjorn that's awesome.  she will probably cry at first, but as soon as you start walking around a bit, they fall right to sleep.
  • I just posted below. We had a day like that too. It was awful. It started out with what you are describing above and then grew into him just screaming and screaming and me crying and crying haha. I just kept going through my usual things that calm him down and finally eating did the trick. He is still sleeping and it has been 30 mins!
  • I can completely sympathize with you - my LO has had his days where he does the same thing.  It is exhausting.  There have been times when I've had to have DH take him so I can go in another room for a sanity break.  Sometimes he'll be happy to be held and sometimes I think he's just exercising his lungs.  :)  Thank God it doesn't last for more than a few hours at a time - although it feels like an eternity that I'm "forced" to be attached to him.
