Just heard from my dr. I have 1 copy of MTFHR so she said I didn't need to do anything differently. She said having 2 copies is the issue. Anyone else have this diagnosis? If so, were you put on any sort of meds, extra vitamins, etc?
I haven't gotten any info back yet, but I just want to say that that must be so frustrating. Are you planning on doing anything differently next time? My FIL (an OB) suggested that I think about baby aspirin, even without testing, as it probably won't hurt and could possibly help. Maybe you can talk to your doctor about that?

I have this too. I'm surprised your doctor didn't want you to do anything differently. I'm currently on baby aspirin and extra folic acid. I also take a B-complex. Once I get pregnant, I will be on Lovenox injections through the pregnancy. This is not the standard when you only have one copy of the gene, but I've had four losses, so my doctor wants to be aggressive in my treatment.

Thanks! The funny thing is I did baby aspirin with the last pregnancy and got further along than I ever had and wondered if the baby aspirin had something to do with it. It's extremely frustrating because I feel like depending on what dr you go to, you can get totally different advice. I'll definitely be talking to my OB more about this. I also had the results sent to my RE so we'll see what he says.
How are you holding up? I'm so sorry for what you've been through.

Thank you!!! How much folic acid and B vitamins do you take? Are there different types of "one copy MTHFR"? Or does everyone with "one copy" essentially have the same thing? I'm new to all of this and want to confront my dr with as much information as I can possibly gather.

I'm doing well. Thanks for asking. Thank God my symptoms seem to have gone away with the D&C. I did NOT appreciate waking up with m/s and heartburn and sore boobs this morning. What a bad reminder.
Right now, I'm just hanging my hat on this testing. I'm actually not as upset as I was last time, maybe because I don't feel as blindsided? As horrible as it sounds, I was ready to hear this every time we went to an appointment. I just want to be able to do something differently next time, so I can at lest feel like we're doing something, KWIM?
I've also heard that bulking up on folic acid can help, btw. I see some people taking 4 mg. I figure that can't hurt since your body will just urinate out whatever is not absorbed.

I just saw a patient this afternoon with one mutation. The MFM I am training under does not typically recommend anything different for only one mutation. It's the art of medicine I guess since her primary OB had already placed her on aspirin and discussed lovenox. So the MFM actually stopped her baby ASA and said to only take 1000 mcg folic acid (which he tells all of his patients to do) and nothing more.

I totally know what you mean about the lingering pregnancy symptoms. Mine lasted (and even got worse) for about a week after my m/c and it felt like such a slap in the face. I also understand feeling less blindsided than the first m/c. I just kind of went numb this last time in an attempt at self-preservation. I hope your tests give you some answers. Did your dr do a saline sonogram? I only mention it because mine found a small polyp that I'm going to have removed in a few weeks. It's so small that it's questionable whether it could have caused my m/c's, but at this point I'm willing to do whatever it takes to give my next pregnancy a better shot.

Thanks for your insights and good luck!
I am actually going to ask about the sonogram, saline or HSG at my f/u appt. I read somewhere that one of the things that can cause later first tri losses is physical problems with the uterus (septa, polyps, etc). That and the clotting factors are the two things I'm focusing on right now. This is assuming that nothing big comes out of the chromosomal screen of the fetal tissue.
I really don't think hormones are my issue because of the timing of my losses, but I assume my doctor will want to test for those as well. I guess it can't hurt.

I also have a single mutation, but my homocysteine levels are high so I'm on folic acid, B6, B12, and baby asprin. You might want to ask your dr to test your homocysteine if he hasn't already.

I have 2 copies. But I am on an extra 400 mcg and a baby aspirin a day.
I have a high risk pg doctor, not a general ob/gyn.
