It's one of those names that used to be foreign and obscure, but I've heard a lot of people using it lately. You could get away with it because of growing popularity, but I myself am not into trendy names. (though I do like it.)

No, Liam does not sound like a red headed allergic kid.
Liam does sound very Irish.
If you name him William and use Liam as the nickname (since it is, in fact, a nickname for William and not traditionally a stand alone name), then the Irishness of the name will be diminished. Which seems to be what you're going for here.
I think it is definitely Irish but I don't think red-headed Irish kid...then again it is my favorite boy name but DH hates it.

No, it makes me think of a tall, gangly, greasy-faced, brown-haired guy i went to high school with.? He's the only Liam i've ever known until recently, and it was pronounced "Limb".? Poor guy had hearing aids and wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and the kids would talk really quiet to get him to turn his hearing aids up, then shout at him.?
Are you freaking kidding me? That is soo mean!! Were they raised by wolves or something? Who the heck does that?!
for some reason i always think of a little asian boy. i think the first boy i knew of named liam must have been asian. it's nms anyway, i think of it as more of a nn.

Well, I don't think Irish = red-headed and allergic any more than I think Liam does. It doesn't strike me as a particularly Irish name, either. The only boy I know with this name is British.

Liam is one of our top 2 baby boy names... I really like it, it's definitely Irish but that is part of what I like about it.
It's funny cause Thomas is also a candidate for boy middle names...
good luck choosing!

So you think all Irish are "red headed allergic kids"? That's nice.

LOVE the name Liam. Adorable as a little boy, but grows up with him as an adult. Cute. And, no, it doesn't sound like an allergic Irish redhead.
