Speculum Question

Does anyone know how far does a speculum spread you open? Sorry but I really wanna know this and DH never looks so he cant tell me.

It just holds the outer and inner labia open so the cervix is visible...there is no set measurement, just depends on your individual vag.  They adjust the spec until they have access.

Dunno lol, but my doc did tell me that there were different sizes.

"Hmmm, looks like you're gonna need a medium size speculum there ma'am" lol...

 hahaha seriously! 

It usually doesnt hurt me when the put it in, but the other night at L+D it hurt hella bad. I think the doc was being rough on purpose cause she knows I hate her. DH wont look when they do it cause he feels bad for me.

hmm. i never thought it was all that much, but i dont know. now i'm curious as well. i've never had much discomfort so sort of assumed it was no bigger than a well-endowed penis. is that dumb of me?

I believe that they are all different sizes for different purposes...once when we were doing a CVS on a patient, I kept trying not to look, but out of curiosity of what a cervix looks like I glanced and I told the doctor afterwards that I never want a speculum again LOL..it was probaby open about a little over an inch so that they can visualize the cervix well...but I was told that the ones they use for routine exams dont open that wide..it still horrified me LOL..I do know that they have different lengths though....
