HELP! DS is puking

Isaac just threw up twice. He's never vomited before, so I'm freaking out a little.

He was in fine spirits when i nursed him to sleep one hour ago. He had cereal just before that, which is a bit unusual. i think he could have gotten too much to eat. Anyway he just woke up crying so I started nursing him again and a few minutes into it, he vomited all over me and the bed.  Then he did it again.

Advice? Is this worth a call to the pedi? he does not seem to have a temp but i'm about to take it.

help!!

Re: HELP! DS is puking

  • If it were me I would see how it goes and call tomorrow if he is still vomiting. I have a DS that randomly vomits sometimes though. Has he had any congestion/drainage? Sometimes that makes them throw up. I hope he feels better soon!?

  • My pedi would ask if he's acting okay. Does he seem lethargic? The biggest concern with vomiting is dehydration, so I would say as long as he's acting and eating alright, I'd wait and see. Especially if he doesn't have a temp.

Just out of curiosity what kind of cereal was it? ?DD threw up both times we gave her rice cereal-enough to empty her stomach. ?We switched to oatmeal and she's never had a problem.
  • Maybe the cereal upset his stomach a little? My ds has done this with rice cereal.

I would just keep an eye on him and like the pp said, if he is lethargic, has a fever or continues vomiting then call the pedi.

  • It was Earth's Best Rice Cereal.

His temp is 98.1, so no fever.

Stupid question - for dehydration... is he old enough for me to give him pedialyte?

He is acting... OK. Clearly, his stomach is bothering him. He looks paler than usual, though I realize that's typical after puking. He vomited again, by the way.

I'm calling the on-call DR. now... shoot.

  • if it keeps happening it's smart to call the dr.  i hope he feels better soon.

Just lurking over here... but when DS was in the hospital at 8 weeks old with RSV he was given Pedialite so I'm sure 7 months is plenty old. I hope your DS feels better soon!

  • My dd puked everyday for a week straight when she had a cold. I brought her into the Pedi and called the nurses line once as well. They both told me it was normal when babies have colds to puke. They told me to give less in the her bottle than what her normal feedings would be or dilute it just a bit.
