We are a long way off, and worried like hell about our babies even making it. But I'd like to get my head around what we might need.
DS is 3. We have a single pnp, crib and 2 strollers (1 jogger 1 umbrella). We also have a bjorn that was great when DS was a baby.
I feel like a double stroller (wide version) will be too wide for the shops around here. I am thinking tandem would be better. Then again maybe I should just carry 1 in the bjorn and 1 in the stroller I have with DS on a toddler board.
We coslept with DS but would try not to after the first few months at least this time. So we probably need a new crib, or can you get a divider for a while in a full size crib?
Suggestions?
Re: What gear is worth getting x2 (or twin version)?
I would suggest a double stroller for sure. We have a side by side and I think my girls would get mad if one was stuck sitting behind the other, they love looking around and checking everything out. Our girls slept in their own cribs from the very start. We have a regular pnp but have not yet used it. We are going to set it up soon to get the girls used to it since in 4 weeks we are going out of town and that is where they will be sleeping.?
Other items I would suggest having two of are bouncers and boppys. Those are the two items that are always being used at our house and I dont know what I would do without them.
Good luck!?
If you travel a lot I would get another PNP because they will quickly grow too large to share one. You'll need two cribs, but probably not right away. I know most people here tend to separate their twins into their own crib around the 3-4 month mark. Ours shared a crib up until tonight (no divider, just laid them next to each other width ways), and the only reason we separated them is because one needs the mattress elevated for reflux and they were ending up squashed against the side when they layed width ways. I would also get another Bjorn or carrier that way you and DH can both carry them in places where a stroller would be a hassle. Right now we just have a tandem stroller that their infant carriers snap into. When they're big enough we plan on getting a side by side jogger.
As far as swings and bouncers go, I would start with one of each to see which ones the babies will like. For instance my two LOVE the swing but hated the bouncer. So we just stashed the bouncer in the closet for now (in case they grow to like it later) and bought a second swing after a couple of weeks.
They share a playmat, bathtub, changing table/pad, etc.
Really the only other big things we have two of right now are carseats obviously. We'll be getting two high chairs, exersaucers, etc later on though.
My DD is 3, twins 6 months. So I had a lot of the single items to begin with like you. We just used one PNP in the family room for diaper changes. We had an arms reach cosleeper in our room which would have supported the weight of two babies at once, but we rarely used it. They were in our bed with us until around 3-4 months of age. Around 4 months, we had the babies separated into different cribs and different rooms actually.
We had a double snap and go stroller (tandem) for the first 5 months. That was nice, but I like a side by side stroller better. Just recently we bought the Baby Jogger City Mini Double (side by side) and I love it. It has fit through all doorways so far. I just was at an outlet store where things are crammed in there, and I had no trouble navagating through the aisles. Anyway, my 3 year old isn't big on strollers or the toddler board, so that wasn't an option for us.
Two boppies are a must for me so I could feed them both at the same time. Obviously this will depend on your babies, but mine LOVED to nap in the swings, so we have two of those as well. We are big into the swaddling, so we actually had four miracle blankets (two for each baby).
Hope that helps. I feel like I am forgetting a ton, it is late. Good luck to you!
