I called it - DH's gma's neighbor is after her cash

DH's gma has this neighbor who takes her to the store and to her appts. I have always been leary of ths guy. Gma has helped him when he was about to lose his house, paid for a roof on the house, paid for dental work for this guy. They also go to dinner almost every nightHe's on disability and has no ambition.

I have offered to take gma to the Dr. and to the store, so he wouldn't have to. Gma is almost 87 years old and just bought a 09 Ponitac G8 (like $35k) for him to drive her around in because she doesn't drive anymore.

DH is on her checking acct. and we have been noticing the checks that have been written and it's mind-boggling. DH called his uncles (they are out west) and gave them a heads up. Thankfully, most her money is in a trust. Well, the boys came back east for a visit last month and they had paperwork to do regarding insurance stuff from when DH's gpa died. They all met with the financial planner and the trustee and figured out how much DH's gma should spend a month and then give her access to additional money in a lump sum a month.

Well, the neighbor is pretty pissed about it. He told gma (in front of the cleaning lady) that he is her caregiver and they he should be in charge of her finances. That didn't go well with the gma (thank God!) and she told him that she makes the decisions, but that just pisses me off. The neighbor didn't realize that the cleaning lady is the same lady who cleans for DH's step-mom and dad - so that's the reason we found out. What a skeezer! DH emailed his uncle about it to give them a heads up.

Ugh - I hate it when people try to take advantage of older people!  Glad she stood up for herself - what a jerk!

That story just makes me sick. I'm so glad your family is aware of him and his bad intentions. That is really scary!
