Baby Names

Worst name ever heard?

I've heard many, due to the fact I work as a teacher. However, the worst I have ever heard was my old high school classmate's daughter..

Leylani Alliyah... lots of L's and A's lol

What's the worst you have heard?

Re: Worst name ever heard?

  • Recently?  Raistlen.  See below.

Ever?  Cashia Moneya, which I have posted on this board before.

  • Hmm... that spelling is disappointing but if you're a teacher and that's the worse actual name you've ever heard, you're doing pretty good!

    I've had/known students named:

Cleniscesia, Quantavious, Miangel (my angel), Nobetta, Mister... the list goes on and on and I am tired so I'll stop. LOL

  • Loading the player...
  • Maliquisha (mal-ee-quee-sha).  I wanted to hurt myself whenever I had to say it.  I've even Googled that name and now I'm certain her parents completely made it up because that name never shows up on a search.
  • La-a (pronounced "Ladasha") ?I'm not kidding on this one!
  • The worst...GeorgiAnnae Lanayea really long German last name.

They call her Gia for short. For the love, if you want Gia why not Giada, Gianna or even Genevive lol.

I work in kindergarten, where this girl was. They had to spell their full name before they could get to play time. She would've never made it if I didn't let her go at GeorgiAnna because I couldn't figure it out either.

Otherwise, Nevaeh while common is also pretty terrible. And anything spelled really wrong.

  • I knew of a girl in college named Twinkle Van Winkle...no lie.

  • There was an Amber Alert in Dallas years ago and the little boys name was Hisoyal Highness LaVon something. I had to read the "HisRoyal Highness" part so much that I missed his last name.

And, um, that's not a typo: HisRoyal = one word.

  • Orangejello (Or-anne-jello) and Tanjello (Tan-jello) Twins DH went to school with!

Lashotamita (La-shota-mee-ta) Brother went to school with.

  • 2 sisters in my son's preschool/daycare: Nevaeh and her sister Sevaeh - backwards for Heaven and Heaves... nice.

I saw a little Braizynn in the local hospital birth announcements a couple of months ago. How do you pronounce that? brazen?

And that D&D name posted a few hours ago on here..

  • Kale.  Yup, like the vegetable.
  • i know a woman who named her son amoco (they pronounce it uh-mock-oh) because she saw the amoco gas station on the way to the hospital to deliver him. he doesn't go by it, either.

my mom also went to high school with a woman who named her daughter brandy gin Hmm

the worst i've heard recently is camdyn raeann (just tacky) and ava ann (those don't even come close to flowing well and could ava be more trendy?)

  • I would seriously drop dead if anyone ever asked this question and it didn't get the inevitable post about La-a and the Jello Twins.

And has anyone ever noticed how it's always different people who contribute these gems? Never the same ones twice.

At this rate, Oranjello should be about #54 on the SSN charts.

  • The racist undertones of the urban legends are what bother me, Lori.

Snopes.com before you post the names.

  • I don't buy the jello twins because there was a cartoon with twins named oranjello and lemonjello (the accent is on the second syllable in each name).  Just a coincidence or could have the story been confused over the years?

  • I used to work as a juvenile probation officer. The two bad names that come to mind right off from that experience are Bradtisha (Dad was named Brad, brother was Brad Jr....seriously people, branch out!). The other was Antquonisha (Ant-qua-nee-sha). She has a twin sister named Antoinisha (Ant-wa-nee-sha). All of the kids (6 or 7 of them) had names that started with Ant. There was an Anthony, Antoine, and Antoinette but I don't remember the others. I worked with the first twin I mentioned and luckily she went by AJ.

I currently have a student named Zaeus (Zae-us). It is the name of one of the apes in the movie "Planet of the Apes". I thought it was strange at the beginning of the year but it has grown on me (not that I would use it for one of my own kids). I think it helps that I really like the kid too!

  • Pardon the not nice words but these are real names. My uncle who once worked as a lawyer for the underprivileged had a client named Shithead- pronounced shi-they-ed and a Vagina- pronounced va-jean-a.

My friend that worked at wic had an Abcd: ab-seh-dee

Did these people realize what they were doing?

No, they aren't real names. Everyone says their sister's cousin's babysitter's nephew worked with someone who did this. And they also know someone whose boyfriend was killed by a guy with a hook who left said boyfriend dangling from a tree over their car, after the rival gang chased her down for flashing her lights while the killer in the backseat kept having to crouch down because the trucker with his highbeams was behind her.

what you are doing is the classic "friend of a friend" version of urban legend.  Unless YOU personally have met and verified these people's names, you are being messed with or are lying.

Also, you are perpetuating class stereotypes.  So stop it.  You have no proof.  "My friend told me" doesn't count.

  • I am sorry but my uncle is not a friend of a friend and neither is one of my best friend's who called me after work one day shocked that someone brought their baby in with that name. They barely spoke English and were trying to use our language to name their child.

This would be the stereotyping BB is talking about.

  • I don't believe this is true.  But if it was, your friend who works helping pregnant women and new mothers with food assistance is an asshat for mocking someone's name.  And pickign up the phone to call you and giggle at one of her clients?  Probably a violation of some kind of regulation.  And all sorts of skeevy for a public servant.

But, again, you're full of it, so I can rest easy.

I'm not sure about the others, but I do know that Shithead can be a real name. DH & I went to high school with someone named this; he was Indian and apparently it was a family name. So at least for this one, it is possible.

  • I wish people could be nice and just simply say- "I am not sure I believe that one." or "I have heard those are not true" instead of being demeaning and rude as I have found so many people on thebump to be.

I got out my name book which sites various name studies and picked out a few interesting ones:

Memory Lane, siblings Iona and Anita Bra, Donald Duck who got to appear on Johnny Carson for his name, and Cigar Stubbs to list a few.

  • the worst names I have ever heard? Probably Jayden and Greenlee.  I also can't stand Trinity/Chastity/Serenity/Verity/etc. Oh yeah and Neveah too. And anything with an unnecessary y inserted somewhere in the name.
  • I went to junior high with an Anaujiram (Ana-wah-hee-rum) which is marijuana backwards, along with her siblings Pretty and Sweet. I've also known of a Forrest Green.

  • We have a conference attendee at work whose name is Neil Nicewanger and another that is Rockets Red Glare.

    Ceszanae

    Ceszariah

    Ceszaniah

    Ponnie

    Dhy'mond

Destiney (the spelling is more awful than the name)

    Tearany (tyranny, yikes!)

  • Nothing wrong with these names in general but I laugh EVERYTIME I see them so I thought I would share. There are 2 news anchors in my area and I shake my head at their parents all the time:

    Woody Woodriff and Al Allen.

They did know their last names when they gave their son a first name right???

That being said, I hate nature and place names. Willow, Skye, Meadow, London, Paris etc. I literally cringe when I see these.

  • This is just a funny name of someone I went to school with:

    Macon. Fisch.

    Middle name: Moore.

    Macon Moore Fisch. :)

But I don't see your Shithead on that list...isn't that weird. I have that bad baby name book too and it's funny. Post more names from that--based off the true SS lists!"?

Realize that there IS a chance your uncle heard that joke and then was telling YOU--and you didn't get it. ?

  • Two of my favorites are Snowy Forest ?(heard it somewhere locally, so I know it is real)

and Misty Waters (my high school yearbook can prove I went to school with her)?

I also went to school with Princess Smith. LOL.?

Weird names happen. I know (personally) multiple girls named April Showers.

But the ones you listed are specifically urban legends that have been repeatedly found to be racially or xenophobically motivated untruths.

And seriously, EVERY time this thread is posted (at least once or twice a week) a different person contributes the same names. That's where the exasperation comes from.
