In tears-hate feeding dd#2

Its like a war zone feeding her.  She takes like 5 good bites of food and then arms wave all over the place, food gets on me, her, the floor, the wall, everywhere.  I know she's hungry because she will eat puffs until the cows come home.

I already am a worrier so this doesn't help.

Re: In tears-hate feeding dd#2

  • Take it at her speed.  I was lucky if my DD2 ate 5 bites.  She HATED baby food.  The doc recomeened trying real food at 9 mo and we haven't looked back!  She used to gag on the baby food, so I was scared to try real stuff, but she did/does great!  GL!

  • Will she eat other soft finger foods?  Maybe she's independent and wants to do it herself?  My DD was a bit like that.  Never really took to baby food, but loved to eat small pieces of soft fruit, tofu and avocado on her own.  GL!
  • I'm sorry you're having so much trouble....Just tell yourself, "This too shall pass!" I remember that stage with my kids where I felt like I was constantly cleaning up the mess they made when they ate. But eventually they do get better at it! Hang in there!

  • I'm sorry!  Mine hated to be fed baby food.  She only wanted foods she could feed herself.  We did a lot of finger foods.  She still won't let me feed her, but at least I'm used to it.

  • I would also try more table foods - my last two babies both resisted the spoon so we just went to self-feeding which made life much easier.

  • Ditto the self feeding suggestions.  We just chopped up veggies and fruits and steamed them until they were very soft and DD fed herself.  I could sneak in spoonfuls of cereal when she was working to pick up the food.  GL!

  • Ditto on the self-feeding/table foods.  DD#2 always wanted to eat whatever DD#1 was eating.  At about 7 months, we let her have her first "real" food - a biscuit at a restaurant.  From then on, she flat out refused to eat any babyfood except maybe some of the "dessert" jars so I gave up and started giving her soft veggies, mashed potatoes, pastas, etc. - anything she could eat herself.
  • Uhmmmm... she's 9 months old. ?Why are you forcing her to eat if she doesn't want to? ?Give her a bottle and some puffs and wait a few weeks instead of driving yourself nuts and making a mess of yourself and your house.

  • I know, it is so frustrating! Are you giving her pureed foods? Is that what she doesn't like? DD#2 just hates pureed lunches (meat, chicken, etc) so i just started to give her little pieces of chicken or turkey and she's practicing and getting so much better at it and actually swallowing. I know it's early to start her on things but some kids just hate mush. DD#1 was probably a huge gagger because I waited so long to give her pieces so hopefully this one will get some early practice.

Ugh, that is frustrating. I would just keep offering her new foods, and hopefully you will find something that she likes!
