Trying to Get Pregnant

Do you think there's any validity?

To the statement that it will take the same # of months to get pregnant based on the number of years you were on BC?

Like, let's say I was on BC for 5 years, and it should take me 5 months to get KU?

Sorry if this is an idiot newb question, it's just something that's been rolling around in my head for a few months.  Plus, it's some random fact that DH keeps tossing out there.

Re: Do you think there's any validity?

  • I'm sorry but I wasn't on the pill 18+ years.  So no I don't think it is accurate.

  • I've never heard that before. I do know that it takes everyone a diffferent amount of time for their body to get used to being off BC.

    Good Luck!

  • No.  My friend just got pregnant on her 2nd cycle trying after being on BC for 10 years.  She's probably very lucky, but the myth is debunked, nonetheless.  GL.
  • I think it's nonesense. Everyone's body is different.
  • Since there's a chance of getting PG on the pill, absolutely not accurate.

  • Alright, great.  I really, truly didn't think so.  I feel like a total fool for even asking, but just wanted to ask just in case.

  • No. My friend was on BCP for 12 years. She stopped taking them in Jan. She is 12 weeks PG.
  • Not at all!
  • No.  Facts are true, this is not.

    No.

I was on BCP for 6 years. Got pg the first month trying.

If this was a "fact," no one would need to chart or wonder about how long it would take. It is definitely not a formula.

  • I'd heard that before (can't remember where), but I don't think it's actually true.

  • Yeah that must be a myth and one I've never heard of before at that.

  • no. everyone is different. my best friend stopped BCP and didn't even have a period yet and she got pregnant that month.

  • That's ridiculous. Scientifically, how would that be possible? And how would it work for people that got off BC years before they started TTC? FWIW, I was on the Pill for 9 years and got pg in 4 months.
  • Wasn't valid for me.
  • I've never heard that before.  It sounds pretty crazy to me, but I hope it works... if so, I'll be getting KU this cycle.

  • No, can't say I've heard of that.  If that's true for me, that means I should get my BFP in the summer...  I think I've had it for 8 years.

  • I had not heard that, and don't think it's true.  BUT, I did recently hear of a study that said that a woman's sense of smell helps her to pick a mate and that the scents that she finds appealing tend to correspond to men with a significantly different genetic makeup than her own.  In other words, a woman is programmed to pick a mate who will help to diversify the gene pool, thereby increasing the chance of having viable offspring.  Anyway, that same study went on to say that being on birth control actually changed a woman's scent preference, so that she was more likely to choose a mate with a similar genetic makeup.  The study did not go on to test the next portion of the theory, but did say that it would be worth looking into whether people who get together while the woman is on birth control have a more difficult time conceiving.  Anyway, that's a different point than what the OP was discussing AND it's not even proven true, but I thought it was interesting...
