Baby Names

What do you think of...

the name Quinn?

My sister just had a baby (a boy named Madden) but she didn't know what she was having during the pregnancy, therefore didn't share names either. I curiously asked what her girl names were and Quinn was one of them.  They are not having anymore kids so the name is up for grabs and DH & I are TTC.

DH & I really liked the name Quinn for a girl (before she mentioned it) but the people we have told seem to think it's more boyish....what do you think?

Re: What do you think of...

  • The only person I've ever met named Quinn was a girl. It sounds too feminine to be a boy name.?

  • it's not my style (unisex) but it's not as bad as some! I may like it more if it ws paired with a girly mn....like Quinn Elisabeth
  • I agree CourtneyRDH, I think it is very feminine.

:) I am glad we are not the only ones who thinks the same.

  • It's definitley a unisex name now--I know a 4 year old boy named Quinn and some baby girls.

I tend to not like unisex names, but if you do, it's a very nice name.

  • Thanks meplusone & *megsy*, I never looked at it as unisex, but I guess it makes sense now.

We are not really into middle names (I am, DH doesn't even have one) so I am not sure of one yet, but it goes great with our last name, so I am happy about that.  If anything, my Grandmother's name is Rose, so that could be an option.

  • I guess it could go either way. I knew a male Quinn and I know a baby girl named Quinn.

  • I like it for a girl

  • I'll pass. Reminds me of that annoying girl on Zoey 101. Not that I watch it or anything . . .
  • sounds kind of snobby to me.  sorry.
  • I like it as a boy name. I knew a Quinn (a guy) in high school. Definitely NMS for a girl. I typically don't like the unisex names for girls.

Ditto.  I really don't understand Quinn as a girl's name.  If we have a boy he will probably be named Joaquin with the nickname Quin.

  • Not a huge fan. Maybe as a mn. I think of the song "the Mighty Quinn" but most likely no one knows that song anymore. Or Mrs. Quinn medicine woman.

  • I think girl personally.
  • I knew a girl in college and a younger boy with this name. I'm not a fan of it for a girl, sorry. Just isn't a pretty name IMO.
  • First thought was that it was for a boy, but I think it's pretty as a girl's name. I might use Quinnley and call her Quinn, but that's just for the emphasis on the femininity of the name on paper.  GL!
  • I like it for a girl.

  • I used to think it was a girl name, mostly because of "Daria" on MTV.- Since then, I've only heard the name for boys.  I know at least 3.
  • My cousin's name is Quinn (it's a boy...well, man he's 40);  I also know of a girl name Quinn.  I think of it as a boy's name but that's probably since I grew up w/a male Quinn.

NMS, but it does sound like a girl name. I can't picture a boy named Quinn.?
  • I know two Quinn's and they are both male.  I personally think that it is a unisex name so if you like it, use it:-)
