We thought we liked Katherine better, but now are back on Heidi! WDYT?

Re: Katherine or Heidi?

  • I grew up getting called Heidi by mistake all the time (for some reason...my name is Holly) and I hated it.  It's got a bad connotation for me.  I guess it could be cute...like Heidi Klum, but I still prefer Katherine.

Katherine is one of my favorite names, but I like the Catherine spelling more. I think it looks more sophisticated. Heidi is very cute. I like both names a lot. I had a cute, petite math teacher named Heidi that I really liked. The name fit her well.?

  • My grandparents had a dog named Heidi, so now wherever I hear it I associate it with dog.  So, I voted for Katherine, but I'm biased.

Ditto this-- I have heard of a few pets being called Heidi. But very few people name their pets Katherine, so I'm going for Katherine.

  • I like Heidi more!  It's much more unique.  Katherine and all the variations thereof are too common for me.
  • I voted for Heidi.  I think it's a pretty, fun name without being so common like Katherine.  I do love Kate though.

  • I love Kate, but if you aren't using a nn, I think I prefer Heidi.  There are just so many versions of Katherine that make it so common - Caitlyn, Catherine, Katie, Kathleen.
  • I know about 5 Catherine/Katherine/Cathryn 's, and it just sounds so boring to me because I hear it all of the time. I looove Heidi so much, it's a name she can grow into. I vote Heidi!!!
  • For some reason I have always disliked the name Heidi. I just think of  Hidey hidey hidey ho!  From the Blues Brothers. I even loved the book Heidi, so I am not sure why.

I like Katherine spelled Katherine better than Catherine for some reason. Kate or Cate is a great nn.

  • I picked Heidi because Katherine is one of those bring-it-back-from-the-past names that I think has become popular again. Heidi is nice but not as popular.
  • I love Heidi. It's different but still a good solid spelled right name.

I also think it's super cute!

  • My vote would be for Heidi.  Katherine is just too plain for me.
  • No matter how common Katherine gets it is one of those regal names that will always be classy and beautiful. Katherine is literary and timeless. Sorry if I am biased.

  • I'm not a fan of Heidi.  I think I associate with the blond bimbo from the Hills.  Katherine may be a bit plain but I think its classic.  (And, for the record, much different than Kaitlyn, etc.)

Katherine is timeless and classic. It's been popular for hundreds of years and will continue to be. In my high school, we had many, many Katherines. My grandma is Katherine. Dh's great-great grandma is Catherine and his Great-great-great-great-great grandma is Catherine. It hasn't become popular again because it always was and is popular.?

  • Katherine is just very, I don't know, not exciting?  Also, someone will inevitably call her Katie or Kate or Kat, three more names I don't care for.  Heidi is a distinctively German-language name. It has a lot more character and depth and can't be butchered into a nickname. (Also, I associate it with the Heidi of literature!)
