Funny that you ask. I'm cursing mine at this very moment. I've been getting really intense cramps with my period since I got it about 8 months ago. Ibuprofen usually helps, and they only last a few hours, but... wow. Ouch. Other than that... it's really convenient. I was just telling DH how nice it is that I haven't had to think about it much at all. I check the strings after my period each month, like they told me to, and that's it! I've always reacted badly to BC containing hormones, which is why I chose the paragard IUD rather than the Merena (sp?).
I have a history of pree (twice) and b/c of some labile pressures I had between my 2 pregnancies, my gyn recommended a no hormone method of bc... so paragard. placement was fine, just take motrin before you go. it hurt but was brief. there was some cramping after (it was placed at the start of my period). I had intense cramping (no worse than pp cramps after having my second child) and heavier flow to my cycle for a good 3 months.. but it has eased a ton. now, no prob. the first month or two I was thinking, wth . I was taking 600mg of motrin every 6 hours for cramping with my periods. so intense first few months, but no difference now. I'm happy with it.
I loved it when I had it. The craping and period was intense for a few days during the month, but not too bad. This time around I got the Mirena, I hate it so far, It's been a month since I got it and I'm still bleeding ( TMI, sorry), I did not have any issue with the paragard, I wish I done it instead.
I have it. Insertion was uncomfortable. I had spotting and light cramping for a few days after insertion. My period just returned after prengnancy and the first couple days were REALLY heavy and I had more cramping than usual, but it was mangeable. I hope it tapers off in a few months like pp's said. I like that it's hormone free.
