I've actually met 2 girls with the name Mika, or Micah in my life. I've also met a Micahleen. Where I live, Micah is actually more popular with girls than boys.

Maika is the feminine form of Micah, which would mean Micah is masculine.?
The rules of phonics don't change just cause you want them to...
The "rules" of phonics cannot be applied in every word/name in the English language. ?Just ask any of my first grade students who try to spell words like "who," "could," "friend," etc.?

This is true, but they are not willy nilly either...note the "you want them to" part of that saying.

Nobody wants "who" to be pronounce whah-ho.?
Understood. ?But, wouldn't "haiku" be an example of a legitimate word that would actually mimic the spelling and pronunciation of OP's name selection (in regard to the "ai")??
I don't mind the spelling you chose, but she will probably have to "spell" her name for everyone for the rest of her life. I am a teacher and taught a few Mika girls in my classes, so I disagree about it being masculine. But like another pp said, I would prefer Mikah vs. Maikah.
i think it will be mispronounced all the time. if you like the way the name micah sounds, you could just use that spelling. i would use a family surname as the middle name if it were me, i hate first name sounding middle names.

Re: Settled on a girl name! .. I think (:
Pretty name, but to be honest, I probably would have pronounced it MAY-kah just by the way it's spelled. But that could just be my problem...
I didn't get it at first either.
The name isn't bad, but it will never get pronounced Micah spelled the way you have it. Maybe drop the "a"?
Middle names: Claire, Faith, Paige, Rose
I grew up with a girl named Micah.
I hate to be rude, but that spelling is really off if you're trying to get people to say Micah. You spelled it May-ka or Mah-ee-ka.
The meaning of the name Maika is Who Is Like God?
The origin of the name Maika is French
Notes: Form of the name Micah.

The H at the end is actually a family tradition, all the girls who have names that end in A, are followed with an H.

Why are you adding the h? On babynames.com Maika comes up, but Maikah doesn't.?
My MIL would probably be disappointed if we didn't add it, I kind of like it anyways.
I didn't see that. Makes sense- sorry.?
I really cannot think of a middle name, all I have so far my husband doesn't like.
Maikah Nikki
Maikah Raquel
Maikah Vanessa
Maikah Belle
Maikah Adele
Our last name has two syllables, begins with a D.
Really dislike the spelling. Micah looks much better, Maikah makes me want to say "May-ka." Even Mikah would be better.
For MN, I'd say stick with simple and do something like Grace.
Ditto, and that's an awful spelling that wouldn't be pronounced like Micah.
Yeah, it does look like My-kah with that spelling, not Mee-kah
I went to high school with a male and female Micah. The female spelled it Mika

I have no problem with the spelling. Think of the names "Maia" (Greek, pronounced like Mya) or "Raili" (Finnish, pronounced like Riley).
If you like it, go for it.

I'm in NZ so I automataically assumed Maikah was said My-kuh but that's because in the Maori language "ai" is pronounced "i"
However when you said Micah I thought you might mean "Me-cah" again it's the Maori language thing.
It sounds like where you are thought the ideas surrounding pronunciation are different.
No matter what it's the kind of name that people will always say "how do you spell that?" or "Did I say that right?"?

Actually -ai- does not always make the long a sound as you are all thinking. There are many variations of what it sounds like including ah-eeh.
