Eating Alone?

Has anyone gone out to a sit-down restaurant and eaten alone? I am craving a taco and burrito and DH, who hates mexican food, is not home so I was wondering if I should take advantage. Normally, it would be Taco Bell but since he is gone I wanted to sieze the opportunity. Am I going to look like a complete loser if I went alone?

Re: Eating Alone?

  • I did this ONCE, and that was it. I got so many weird looks from people, but maybe since it is lunch time no one would notice. Enjoy your mexican, I might have to get me some Taco Bell now!

  • No, you won't look like a loser in the least.

I  do it frequently when travelling on business, or if DH is away on business.

  • I would occasionally hit up the coney island by myself.  Usually I just bring a book or magazine so I don't have to stare at the wall or other people while i'm waiting for my food.  It's weird, but not a big deal :)

  • Yes, I actually enjoy it. When I need some "me" time I hit up the bookstore first then head to my fav sushi bar!  Have fun

Wow, really? I'm guessing you might live in a very very small town then. I've eaten out by myself many times and it's no big deal. People are usually waaay into their own meals/company to worry about if someone is there eating alone. And if some stranger really thinks to themselves, what a loser that girl is- who cares! Go eat some Mexican food and enjoy :)

I've done it a few times now--and I did it 2-3 times last weekend because we were away at a conference DH was participating in, so I had a lot of free time to myself. I took a notebook and a magazine and enjoyed taking myself out on a date.

  • I have done it a few times, bringing a book helps you feel less odd. I am totally comfortable eating alone. HTH
  • I've done this several times.  I don't think you'll look like a loser.  Besides, I bring something to keep me occupied (usually a book) or face the window to "people-watch".  That's just me!

  • You can always bring a book or papers to make it look like you are working :)

  • No, you won't look weird, at least I don't think so. I do this frequently when DH is on a shift and I have a craving for something. Plus, I'd rather eat there than mess up my own kitchen!

  • All the time.  When you travel for work you totally get used to it.  No big deal.  If you're worried, bring a book or magazine.

This.  When I got divorced, I would occasionally go out and eat alone.  My family lived about 45 minutes from me and I didn't have many single friends in the area.  I felt funny the first time, but got over it pretty quickly.  I'm a teacher, so I took a small stack of tests to grade while I waited for my food, and got into a long conversation with the waitress about teaching.  I haven't felt self-conscious about it since!
