Baby Names

Help us, we're stuck.. (kinda long)

Ok, I posted last week about Naomi, and we're still thinking of that but I wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions for us. Who knew we would have so much trouble agreeing on a name!! It's starting to stress me out that we're never going to find one!

?

So I tend to like names that end in -a (I love Cora/Nora, I like Anya, and I like some of the more trendy names now like Ava or Olivia..) but DH doesn't like any of those. He likes Lucy which I think is cute for a little girl but I'm not sure I like it as an adult name.. he also likes Helen and Abigail, neither of which I'm crazy about. Can anyone suggest anything for us?!? I've looked at nymbler but haven't found anything yet. By the way this is our first so there aren't any siblings yet.. and our last name is very common and short so I want the first name to be a little unusual if possible.

?

Also, does anyone have any more thoughts on Naomi? I keep going back and forth on it, I think it's really pretty but does the ending in an -i make it sound too much like Kristi or Kelli or something? (nothing against those names, just not my style, I want something that sounds more traditional than those I guess..)

?

Ok, sorry for such a long post! If anyone has any suggestions that would be great! :)

  • I really like Naomi and Nora. However, it's something I could never pull off...but I like those choices for you.

FWIW Naomi and Kelli/Kristi sound nothing alike. :)

What about Jenna? It has that A sound, is a little different but good and solid.

Lorna might also be another option for you.

  • Naomi is a strong Biblical name.  Nothing at all like Kristi or Kelli.
  • Ditto the PP.  Naomi is nothing like those other names. It's very pretty.

What about Corinne, Hannah, Augusta, Miriam, Nola, Mina, or Tamsin?

  • I really like Naomi. It's a Biblical name that is rarely used, but everyone has heard of it. It's nothing like Kristi or Kelli. What about Julia, Maria, Laura, or Cara?

  • Lucia loo-SEE-ah

    Lucina loo-SEE-nah

    Helena HEL-en-ah, hel-AY-nah

I don't like Naomi. It sounds like a hillbilly to me (could be a geographic thing).

  • I love the name Naomi. It's Biblical so almost everyone's heard of it yet it's not too common where there will be 2 other girls in her class with the name. I don't make any connection with Kelli or Kristi, but that's probably because I would spell them Kelly and Christy. I think Naomi's a keeper but of course you have to love it yourself.

  • I was going to suggest Luciana like a pp. Lucy can be a nn, but she would still have a professional name.
    Blank!
  • I really like Naomi.

Other ends in 'a' names, just realized I really like girl names that end in 'a' too.

    Nadia, Lena, Lana, Amelia

  • I have a thing for "a" names too:Leah, Stella, Ella, Mia, Maya, Anna, Bellla, Hannah, Lila, Lilia, Rebecca

Or to incorporate your husband's ideas:

Lucia, Helena (my friend named her daughter Helena and I love it)?

I also like: Lily, Jane, Violet, May, Elizabeth, Beth

Good luck. I think all the ideas you and your husband have had are pretty.?

  • naomi would normally be nms but i think it's really pretty. i agree iwth you about the kristi/kelli/etc. names, i can't stand those as they're really dated.

i don't think of naomi as even being an -i name because it isn't shortened like "kel" or "kris" and i think it's really cute.

baby name wizard sister names and other suggested names:
