Were they really sleepy when you brought them home?
Miles sleeps a lot, and I know part of it is because he's so little but could part of it be because of the jaundice? I mean we're having to wake him for feedings and then he falls asleep again soon after. I'm trying not to worry too much about it but it's hard with this one. I keep getting paranoid about things being "normal," etc.
Any stories, advice would be appreciated!!?
Re: If your DC had jaundice, come in
Gina was slightly jaundice. Funny that she was and Emilia wasn't b/c E was born at 37.5 weeks and Gina was practically 40 weeks.
Anyway, we used to use washcloths to wake her up. Seemed a little mean, but she would NOT wake up. I used to panic, that's how asleep she would be. Not even diaper changes would wake her. It only lasted a couple of weeks though.
How did Miles sleep last night?
DD2 wasn't jaundiced and slept way more than I remember DD1, who WAS jaundiced, sleeping at first.
I know you've got a few things going on that you are looking for, but I was very surprised at how much I'd forgotten about those really early days. I was about ready to call the doctor over how much DD2 was sleeping.
She had very mild jaundice. The first few days at home she was sleepy, but by the 3rd day she was waking more. My sister swears by a cold washcloth on the bottom of the feet for a really sleepy newborn.
Congratulations on your baby boy : )
Christmas 2011
M, we had to set the alarm for every three hours last night so we could wake to feed him, though he did kind of wake up on his own at 1 a.m. to eat. We were up twice, so that's not too bad.
I know worse days could be coming!?

griffin was jaundice - he had to spend 2 extra days under the lights... and yes- he was super sleepy. I don't know if it was more than the avg non-jaundice baby, since he was my first- but i do remember we had to wake him to feed him b/c he had to be fed every 3 hours for the juandice.
we'd undress him when it was time to eat otherwise he'd fall asleep eating.
PS- I saw a bunch of tulips blooming today and thought of you, and "Holland" and it warmed my heart.
Yes! My DD was born right at 37 weeks and was verrrrrry sleepy for about 3 weeks or so. We had to go through alot to keep her awake to nurse. She was also jaundiced (although not badly enough to go under the lights or get readmitted to the hospital) and wasn't pooping out her meconium. We actually had to do rectal stimulation to get most of her meconium out because the docs were worried her jaundice would get worse.
Anyway to try and keep her awake for feedings we would strip her to a diaper, change her diaper, blow on her face (lightly), tickle her feet, shake her arm, tickle her cheek...it was frustrating! By the end of her first month the extreme sleepiness while nursing was pretty much over.
Good luck, it should pass! (but of course call the ped if you get real worried...I did).
So funny. Reminds me the first night that Gina was home, she was so sleepy all day, so we set the alarm for 3 hours before going to bed. Well, she insisted on being held, and was up 20 minutes later. All 3 of us were awake when the alarm started chiming 3 hours later
Honestly, for me, both times it got tough around the one month mark. Enjoy your sleepy newborn
And we need more pics please!
REALLY sleepy. She didn't really wake up for about 3.5 weeks (and then didn't stop crying 'til she was 6 months old, I swear).
I had to wake her up for every feeding. . . seeing her eyes open was a rare treat those first few weeks.

Both DS and DD were jaundice, and both were very sleepy for the first month or so. They were 2 and 3 weeks early, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.
Congrats on your DS I haven't been on all week to see your announcement.
Both of my kiddos were jaundiced and also slept a TON. We had to wake them and it was tough to keep them awake for more than a couple of minutes to nurse. I don't think it had much to do with their jaundice though...just normal sleepy newborn phase.
Don't worry....he will wake up soon enough and you will wish he was still that super sleepy newborn. : )
I just love your siggy pic of your 2 beautiful kiddos...and you too, of course!
