Anniversary Dinner WWYD?

Our anniversary is this weekend, so we have a sitter...and that's about it!

Because I got all excited and tried on some dresses that haven't fit since our honeymoon (and currently do!), I was thinking we'd get dressed up and have a nice dinner out. ?But now I'm thinking that I'd really enjoy the adult conversation and not having to cut someone's meat no matter where we go, so I'm leaning toward more causal (read: cheap) and a movie (because I can't remember the last time I saw a movie in a theater).

Hmmmmm. ?What to do??

Re: Anniversary Dinner WWYD?

  • Typically every year for our anniversary we go to a fancy/expensive Steak House & then a couple days later I really regret it b/c it's $100 on food that could have been split for several different things.  This year I just want to go someplace fun & spend time with each other, not to mention I'll be 8.5 months pregnant but knowing that we'll have a new additional plus a toddler at home I think just cheap & relaxing sounds great.

  • Just have fun - and if a casual meal and movie work better than I think thats great.  Our anniversary was yesterday and we went to Ted's Montana Grill.  Had a restaurants.com cert for $25 so we basically got a B1G1f meal.  We had a great time and we really needed to do that.

Nice! ?How does restaurants.com work? ?Do you just go and print them out or is there a fee to join?

?I really need to go shopping, too, so I think I might convince him to go cheap on the meal and then we can blow what we would have at a nice restaurant on clothes for each other :-) ??

  • We usually go early enough to a fancy restaurant that we can do happy hour. We have a great time, & then usually go somewhere else for a night cap or go to the movies.

Plenty of nice restaurants around us have specials right now because of the economy, so you may want to look online at the restaurants you were thinking of & see if they have any big deals/coupons.

  • I'm confused.  You have a sitter ... so why couldn't you talk to your DH and why would you be cutting up anyone's meal if you went to a nice place?  I love going to a nice place for a nice adult evening on our anniversary.  But, I agree with the PP that you should do what you think is fun.

No, I meant that the most enjoyable part of the dinner would be adult conversations and not cutting someone's meat, whether we went somewhere and spent $200 or $20. ?Did that make sense? ?Sorry, It's been a long week and I'm sipping some much needed coffee now.

Go to www.restaurants.com and put in your zip code.  It will give you the restaurants in your area that have certs available.  You buy it online and then print it immediately.  The prices don't look very good right now.  They often have 90% off sales.  At Ted's you need to spend $50 in food to get the $25 off, not including alcohol.  Another restaurant cert we have is spend $40 including alcohol, including at least 2 entrees, and get $25 off.

The terms and conditions are different for each restaurant and some don't work on weekends.  So just watch those before you spend the cash for it.

  • Just tried it and all that came up for me is a Pizza Hut :-) ?Thanks for the link, though. ?I'll keep checking it.
  • Maybe go farther out - expand the miles, maybe you will get more choices than Pizza Hut, LOL.

Pizza Hut probably isn't quite the casual you were thinking of, right? LOL

  • Yeah, not THAT casual! ?Thanks I'll keep messing around. ?We live in a suburb of a big city, so I (idiot!) put in my zip, not the DT zip.

LOL!  Now I get it!  Do you have a Lucky Strike near you?  DH and I went there a month or so ago.  It's so fun.  Swanky bar atmosphere, but you can bowl and have fun.  They have food there too.

  • :-)

Nope, no lucy strike. ?That sounds like fun, though! ??
