DH and I are looking to get away for 5 days or so this summer but don't want to do Virginia Beach or Ocean City bc we prefer things a little more laid back. We love the outdoors, rustic is okay, beach is fine...Right now we are looking into Cape May. Any ideas for MD, VA, PA or DE?
TIA!
Re: NGPR: Mid-Atlantic East Coast getaways
Come to Richmond and visit me! LOL
Have you thought about the Blue Ridge Mountains? There are a ton of B&B's and wineries in VA.
it's called a kilt, he's scottish
Though be careful in Dewey--there'll be a LOT of young, VERY drunk people there during the summer!
If you're looking at the Jersey Shore, I'd check out Margate- it's a bit more sophisticated and calmer than Ocean City (which is a dry town so none of the restaurants serve alcohol), but it's close to Atlantic City if you want a night or two in the casinos.
I also recommend the wineries of Northern VA- my favorite is Tarara outside of Leesburg (I used to live in Leesburg so I know it well!)- they have lots of festivals in the summer, and the grounds are spectacular!
Charlottesville, VA is also really nice. DH and I did a weekend there when we were engaged. Lots of wineries and B&Bs!
Dewey and Rehoboth get packed full of singles and drunks -- Bethany would be better if you're looking to relax and have some quiet.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH You have to come to Fenwich beach Delaware!!!! My parents have a house there.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH You have to come to Fenwick beach Delaware!!!! My parents have a house there.
Wow! I didn't think I would get so many wonderful responses! I will look into all of these!!!!
And Monkey... I've never heard of Fenwick. I'm off to go look!
Fenwick is this tiny little part between Bethany Beach and OC Maryland. It's awesome because you can go to Fenwick park for the beach (unless you get a place right on the beach) and you can go into OC for the restaurants.
I agree that Dewey isn't the best for a relaxing vibe.
