Trying to Get Pregnant

If You're A Spotter, WDYT About Testing?

I hear everyone talk about being in suspense and waiting until 12, 13, 14dpo, etc. to test and still being in the dark at that point about whether AF is coming or  not...

I start spotting usually at around 8-10dpo so that's usually my head's up that she's coming and I don't even bother testing.  Anyone else in this boat?  It's totally anti-clamatic.  I've never tested thinking I might actually be KU b/c I'm always spotting before I'm enough dpo to test.

Re: If You're A Spotter, WDYT About Testing?

  • I'm a spotter and I can gladly say I've saved a lot of money not buying HPTs.  I've come even further to terms with this this cycle...things are the way that they are...no use fighting it.

  • I rode in that boat for a while!  This past cycle was the cycle I got my BFP.  I started spotting around 6DPO and by 9DPO it was so heavy, I thought my period had started.  I even started a new chart with CD1.  That was on a Friday, so I drank a good amount over the weekend because I thought it was over.  Monday and Tuesday, I noticed my spotting stopped, so I took a test (only about my 4th one in 8 cycles) and I am still in shock it was positive.

Like you, I always assumed I was out once the spotting started, so testing was pointless to me.  If they can't find a reason for your spotting, it only happens after you O, and it isn't bright red, I wouldn't count yourself out every cycle.  Good luck!

  • I always had spotting a few days before AF was due but I always tested anyways. I actually had spotting on my BFP cycle.
  • From looking at the charts on FF it seems spotting is pretty common. I usually have spotting too but have only had 2-3 cycles w/o it. I don't normally test either I wait for the "bomb" to drop.  I would hold out until at least you're "late" or your normal LH is longer. GL!

I'm not a spotter, but my temps start to dive at 11-12 DPO, so there's no point in testing.

  • i'm on the fence about it. i've been spotting only the last few months and almost everyone i know who got a bfp spotted before it so i never know what to do. this last cycle it was really weird because i had it for almost a week then it stopped, then af showed up.
