there was a helpful post somewhere on diaperswappers about this.
basically, cashmere or lambswool are the softest. shetland is a little itchy. look for 100% wool, or wool/cash blends. A little (5%) acrylic or polyester is OK, but any ramie or cotton in a blend would make it wick. Be sure to use either wool or polyester thread.
i got three sweaters to do this with, and got them felted, but haven't gotten to the actually assembly yet.
