what to look for with wool?

I am thinking of making some soakers/longies out of existing wool sweaters. I have never done this and have no clue how.

What should I look for when searching out wool sweaters for this purpose?

Re: what to look for with wool?

  • there was a helpful post somewhere on diaperswappers about this.

basically, cashmere or lambswool are the softest. shetland is a little itchy. look for 100% wool, or wool/cash blends. A little (5%) acrylic or polyester is OK, but any ramie or cotton in a blend would make it wick. Be sure to use either wool or polyester thread.

i got three sweaters to do this with, and got them felted, but haven't gotten to the actually assembly yet.

let us know how it goes and PIP!!
