Those in master-down homes...

is it a PITA to have your DC on a different level of the house?

We are looking at 2 options...a ranch & a 2-story.  The 2-story is a better plan but it's a master-down & I wonder how family friendly that type of home really is.

  • It really hasn't been an issue for us at all.

  • My aunt loves her floor plan like this.  She even had an infant upstairs (after he grew out of the bassinet).

  • Our house is flipped and the master is the only BR upstairs, so both kids are on the first floor. It's a pain but only because their bedrooms are on the main living floor. Sleeping on a different floor is not the problem for us, it's that we have to tiptoe around when one or both of them is sleeping. If they were upstairs and we were downstairs, that wouldn't be an issue. Monitors are great!
  • No problems here at all (as you already know) :-)

That being said, our next house will be a ranch (with the master on one end and the other bedrooms on the other end). Only because it will be our "forever" house hopefully, and when I'm older I do not want to be walking up and down a staircase.

    Good Luck in your decision.
