How sad is this?

I was talking to a pregnant teenager yesterday at work. She was understandably very ambivalent about the pregnancy and said to me in a very defeated voice, "My mom had me when she was only 17 so I guess it was just fate that it would happen to me too. Not much I could do about it..."

How absolutely sad that this girl honestly seemed to believe that she was just a victim of fate and that she was destined to become a teen mom herself.  She just sounded so sad and defeated.

  • History repeats itself is a saying for a reason!  :(

  • That is very sad, because it really could have been prevented with knowledge.  It is unfortunate that she feels like she has no power and has just given in and almost given up.
  • It is really sad that no one taught her that it didn't have to be that way. Hopefully she makes good decisions from here on.

  • That is rough. I wouldn't even know what to say in response.
  • That is sad. My mom and dad got married at ages 15 and 17, dropped out of HS, never went to college, had me at 18 and 20.

I graduated from HS, got married at 22, had Alissa at 23 and am finishing my BA degree.
